I've been really into AnCo for close to 4 years maybe and I've listened to so much of their discography so many times. One of the few bands I would consider "god tier."
Any AnCo fans or anyone else who listens to them have any suggestions of bands they also really like? Not necessarily the same genre, but bands that are also incredibly consistent and progressive/experimental (when it comes to their sound/career).
Thanks guys.

The Beatles dummy. If you've written them off for being too obvious, listen all the way through Revolver-Abbey Road. If anything they have more range. Not as experimental in today's context for sure, but for their time, I don't give a fuck what anybody says, they were doing shit that people hadn't heard before.

Not OP, but where do I start?
The Shins

I don't like AnCo but the Ex have over 20 albums and they're all pretty good. Their early 90s to mid 00s stuff is their best though.
The Beach Boys traversed across a ton of different genres over the span of the first 20 years of their career. The latter 30 I can take or leave, but going from surf rock (and being the first to actually sing about surfing rather than just make instrumental guitar jams) and cars songs to Spector-esque orchestral pop to baroque pop to psychedelic/americana/whatever-the-fuck-SMiLE-is to lofi psych pop to blue-eyed soul to hard rock to country to prog pop/rock to synthpop... such a fucking wild band that seemed to genuinely have no direction, but made so many different styles their own with their trademark vocal blend. There are missteps here and there but that's what makes their discography so fun and exciting to listen to.
They're a one or two album wonder to many, but not to me.

ehh... in his career, phil really only genre hops once or twice. he's mainly stayed within the indie/experimental spectrum imho and a lot of the albums he's released sound very similar, especially the ones under the microphones

Anon, this band is the first thing I thought of when you I read your post. They both vary wildly in their albums and have a huge discography (of Montreal has a bigger one).
>pre-2004 - tweepop
>2004-2005 - comfy psych pop
>2007 - synth pop
>2008 - glam/funk pop that mixes multiple songs into each one
>2010 - RnBish
>2012 - Prog Pop with elements of the last 3 albums
>>63767902
Stereolab from like 92-99 were always thinking ahead and transforming their sound. And they were always releasing singles and EPs that charted paths they could've taken. Dope group.

I'm a fan of of of Montreal but honestly their progression is just tweepop to whatever you want to call it now and everything in between is just how they got there
>>63780063
>tweepop to whatever you want to call it
Yeah and I described what I called it in my post.
There is a very clear distinction in styles of any post 2004 album and they coalesce in Paralytic Stalks.
I honestly don't know what you're post is supposed to mean, each album is different and Lousy and Aureate are so different you can't really call them part of the same progression.
It's not like they were a band that found their sound after a few albums and stuck with it, none of their albums have the same sound.
>>63767902
River city extension has a fairly short discog, but they really changed with every album like anco, though not quite as drastically

I can think of a few but the first that come to mind are Guided By Voices, Thee Oh Sees, and Spacemen 3 and the post-Spacemen 3 bands.
