OKay, I need help /mu/. I just finished listening to this man's entire discography and it felt like I was forcing myself to watch a movie I hated. It's literally just dadrock song after dadrock song with shitty riff after shitty riff. The lyrics are cringy and have been touched upon by many artists before him to death. I'm actually mad. I don't get it. What am I missing? Do people think he's a legend and an icon for his image? If so then that would make total sense. Sitting through this guy's music was a snoozefest. I honestly thought the shitpoters were just shitposting but what the fuck, how can people hate queen and like this guy at the same time? And i'm not one of those le indie hipster kids with shitty indie taste, i can sit through long albums that require effort. But bowie is nothing but plebeian dadrock. And I swear I hate it when people use those terms but I can't help it, it accurately suits this guy's entire discography. I shouldve known honestly, I mean he's as loved by /r/music as ACDC and queen are.

thats the first step for not liking something, i bet you had all sorts of expectations prior to listening to his music but in reality you should have expected nothing. that reminds me when i first heard loveless and was expecting them to sound something like sonic youth since they both incorporate noise into their music but was sorely disappointed, then i gave them another chance months later without expecting the album to hold some sort of aesthetic i find pleasing and i've liked the album ever since.
I'm with you. I don't know what it is, but something about the production he and Brian Eno uses is just so uninteresting. Like it sounds so disingenuous and fucking boring. David Bowie is an artist I have never cared about musically. Aside from heroes but really, that's it.
Side note: I always thought The Idiot was fucking boring shit and that Lust For Life was way better. Then I found out The Idiot was entirely Bowie and Lust For Life had more say from iggy pop.
