When I first installed this '62 fender AVRI neck pickup in my hss telecaster, the neck and middle were out of phase, so I switched the wires and the phase was fine. The problem I have now is that the notch position (neck/mid) isn't noise cancelling like I need it to be. In addition, when I touch the neck pickup, there is a really loud buzz sound. Is this because of how 62 teles were wired? Is there a grounding issue? How can I make it behave like the stock neck pickup?

The pickup just isn't reverse wound/reverse polarity. There's no way of making if hum cancel.
You can check by holding a magnet near the pickups, if the replacement has the same polarity as the other pickups then it isn't RWRP and you can't get it to cancel hum no matter what you do

If the neck pickup really is reverse polarity and it's still out of phase then you can only try grounding the case. No idea what's going on there but I had phase problems when I installed a Seymour Duncan pickup in my 62 AVRI years ago. I think the original pickups were just weird, either the originals or the replacements just weren't wound the right way.
Either way, if you can't get it in phase with the hot and ground the right way round then it will never hum cancel.

Alright guitar senpaitachi, what just happened here. Brushed against the pictured stud while I was tuning and it flew off. It does not look like it broke off in the bushing threads, looks like the stud had always been that short.
Bought this guitar used and got a killer deal on it, haven't had to make any adjustments as the action has been pristine for a year now.
Where do I go from here? Replacement set of studs from Stew Mac? Also, has anyone tried installing an adjustable wraparound bridge on a Gibson Melody Maker? Might upgrade to a Badass-style bridge if it's worth it.

Looking for my first amp. Got basically zero skill, need something to practice at home. Narrowed it down to a Marshall MG and an Orange Crush. Every time I've tried one they had the worst fucking sound ever upon hitting the strings. It sounded like one of those bikes that kids would put cards onto so it made a rattling noise when driven. I've got that amp and I really like it, it's great for the price and is pretty much as good as a tube amp unless you're getting into the extreme price range.
The drive channel is kind of weak but I doubt you bought a 7ender for the drive.
I've got a Boss St-2 that gives it a killer noisy sound, a lot of people don't like it but I can get some unique shoegaze tones out of it.

It's pretty different feeling. Somr players prefer it and others don't. As far as the tone goes, it's kinda silly to generalize light and heavy picks like that. The shape of a thicker pick affects the sound. If I were you I'd try out a bunch of picks. Notable heavy picks for bass: stubby triangles, big stubbies, tortex, nylon. All dunlop stuff. Try to get one of each size for the stubbies. As far as nylon goes a lot of sizes are good. They tend to have a bit of flex no matter what, which is nice.

Any decent Hardware/radioshack type store should have most of the stuff you need. There are specific stores that sell you the housings and switches, and most of them have resistors, perf boards and caps for normal prices so I just order everything from there. How exactly did your playing turn to shit within one week? You didn't suddenly forget all the scales, chords and everything you learned the past few years, it's usually just muscle memory and dexterity that take a big hit. It's been years since I played a BD-2 but I think they're quite different. The Mayflower is the most transparent OD I've played. You can always hear a some of your clean tone underneath the saturation, some people hate that. I also think the Mayflower can sound lifeless or even muddy if you don't bump the Treble a bit. It's also kind of low gain.
The BD-2 is much less transparent and definitely has a personality of its own. It's grittier and bassier, I think it's apples and oranges compared to the Mayflower. Personally I'm not a big fan of the BD-2.

I'm new to guitar and trying to learn the intro to Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden for shits and giggles (turns out the Mustang II has a preset called Black Hole Vibe). The part I'm having trouble with is:

yeah that works. i mean, the mic would sound better if it was better impedance-matched but it still works. going the other way (high Ω output to low Ω input) doesn't really work at all, but going from the mic to the amp is fine. you wanna get 30W+ for sure, and even that's gonna be ok for rehearsing but not filling any big spaces/audience areas

I use green Dunlop .88mm. I started out with a Gibson branded (I think) TT (extra thin) pick when I very first picked up guitar. It was easiest to use for me, even though I couldn't imagine playing with that thing now. My teacher at the time gave me a green .88 and tried to talk me into using it, but I was stubborn and didn't like the feel.
