Anyone else from /gg/ who has been there or planning to go this Friday? Any cool souvenirs that I should get? I think I'm gonna bring my guitar just for fun.

I want to write a song called "nobody cares about the bassist" where I keep trying to lay down a groove while constantly being interrupted by a shredding guitarist. Resulting in a battle between guitar and bass solos ending in a nice synthesis between the two as they start building a song together instead of each doing their infividual thing.
Is that stupid? I imagine it being a really fun live song, lots of opportunities to do silly stuff and to have fun.

Hard cases for long transport/storage. Semi-hardshell/padded/extra-thick gigbag for everything else. Actual flight cases when you need to transport it by plane obviously. Love the Gator GoPro, by the way, I feel save transporting 3k€ basses in that thing even on public transport.

Well yeah, if it's a cheap guitar with a bland finish, then it's acceptable, but other than that, it's a sin.

I have one, didn't defret it myself but the previous owner did. It's a squier so the fretboard isn't perfect, not made for fretless obviously, I'd have to sand it down to make it work honestly. As it is right now it works for messing around.
On cheap basses to have fun --> yes.
On an expensive bass it's not worth it IMO.

Same here, a Squire Affinity J-bass. It works up to the 12th fret, but after that it's just a mess of overtones and beats. But as I said, I'm not a fretless player, I just wanted to try it out so that's good enough for me. If I was serious about it I'd get a proper fretless bass or have a luthier sand it down perfectly, I just don't think it's worth it to invest that much time and effort into defretting a decent bass yourself.

Do you fret notes with the very tip of your finger? If I try fretting a note like I would on bass I end up muting the next string as well. Also, I assume you fret 2 strings with one finger sometimes?

Traditional clover tuners. Sometimes they're also heart shaped. They look okay on huge headstocks, but big headstocks suck so whatever. I actually prefer them for tuning though, they have more leverage and you can be more precise.

You should totally fix this yourself, anon.

Nothing could possibly go wrong.
>>
>>63680083
Why does that shit only happen to Gibsons/Epiphones?
>>
>>63680083
I'm no luthier but I guess you'd have to get a clamp, wood glue and maybe strip a bit the finish so you can apply the glue better ?
Headstock breaking is apparently a common issue on Gibson/Epi 6+6 headstocks but from what I've seen the crack generally goes the other way.
It might be worth it to ask a local luthier how much it would cost, since you got the guitar for free.
>>
>>63680137
Because Gibson seem to be the biggest frauds in guitar industry.
>>
>>63680137
Because Gibson once tried to change the headstock angle and make it sturdier, but it was either people thinking it was ugly or the guitar had too much neck dive, I don't really remember.

But basically because it's designed like shit, even my shitty guitar which is practically dissolving itself doesn't have any damage to the neck despite having fallen a few times.

>>
>>63680158
I'm pretty sure the 3 tuning pegs on each side headstock design can be done without neck dive and it also snapping off.
>>
>>63680083
Stretch the break so you can needle in a generous amount of glue. Clamp. Sand, repaint, refinish
>>
>>63680188
People are doing 4 tuning pegs on each side without any of these, as I said, it's because Gibsons are designed like shit, but they did try to fix the problem once.
>>
>>63680083
Titebond, glue syringe for injecting, and if you're any good at woodwork, custom, cut to shape clamp blocks for both the back of the neck and the fret board, for proper pressure and damage prevention, and finally clamps. You'll also need to remove the truss rod so that you don't glue it to the neck. You with me?
>>
>>63680229

>>
>>63680684
Better no, but hotter yes, I have a Dimarzio X2N and if I even so slightly touch a fret, you can hear it.
And hotter pickups also mean you'll get a slight overdrive depending on the amp, so using a compressor may be a better idea.
However you also need to train your fingers, since they'll get tired after a certain time if you do quick repeating motions.
