Yes, most people on /mu/ pirate music. If you don't pay for your albums, you can listen to more artists, and support more artists. It's a win-win.
>>
>>63636124
Only if it's not on Spotify, Tidal, iTunes, or Digital Purchases, in that order. Piracy is destroying America's economy.

Of course I pirate

But when I find something I love I purchase it to support the artist
unless they are popular/rich, in which case they don't need my money.
Yeah, sure it is buddy

Not since the Barbary war

If everyone had bought all the albums they'd pirated over the last 16 years, the economy would be booming instead of in a double-dip recession like it is now.

You are worse than a pirate if you use Spotify. Stop acting superior for giving an artist like 13 cents every couple hundred plays.
>>
>>63636812
It's perfectly legal though dipshit, so suck my fat one. Enjoy your criminal paranoia!
>>
>>63636708
Stop buying into the lie that piracy is costing industries tons of money. There is some loss, yes, but the truth is that people who pirate often are also more likely to buy products and support artists, as well as spread product awareness online and by word-of-mouth

People who only pirate and don't buy anything are a minority. Industry professionals are only bitching because it changes how the market works and they don't want to adapt.

>385 million dollars streaming

>it changes how the market works
Yes, it's easier to steal now. Doesn't make it a good thing. You faggots all feel this way until it happens to YOUR music then you want to whole world to take note. Quit attention seeking and put YOUR music out there for free if you feel this way. And when you're still poor 20 years down the line, then we'll see who regrets life the most.
>>
>>63636124
Yes i pirate for anything that is not on spotify and then add it to spotify
I have been paying a spotify subscription for several years now, and if i really like an album i go to my local store and buy the LP. However my local store is quite small and they dont have everything i want. The last lps i have bought have been swans, gy!be and st vincent i believe. T b h i can ask them to get me almost any album but they take a lot of time so if it is not in the store i usually dont get it
>>
>pirate music
>go buy cd/vinyl afterward if it isn't shit or go to show
>artist gets money

literally how 90% of piracy works
>>
>>63636205
yea, if i could.
>>
>>63636947
I always support lesser-known artists. But if it's someone who has gone platinum fuck no I'm not buying their album

The way the market works today actually benefits independent artists and hurts the mainstream companies, companies that have excluded good artists who won't play ball and have produced mostly garbage for decades. Literally who cares
>>
>>63636924
>>63636856
The "it's legal" argument makes absolutely no fucking sense. The FBI isn't gonna knock down your door because you downloaded albums.
Anyways, only incredibly large artists make a liveable amount off of Spotify. It just isn't a business model that works for artists. On the other hand, pirates can listen to much more music overall, and can therefore spread the word about that music, and support the artists they like directly with the money they don't spend on a Spotify subscription or don't spend on an album on iTunes.

>>
>>63637147
The only problem is that mainstream companies hate the fact that they're dying, so they spend a shit ton of their money on legal shit to try to intimidate pirates. Never mind the fact that they also spend metric fucktons of money on trying to get laws that "stop" pirates and punish consumers into play.

i pirate music and vidya

but i try to support services i would actually pay for if i wasn't a poor college kid

most retarded image ever made.
if you don't think piracy hurts sales you're genuinely a fucking idiot. You're not stealing money from the artist, you're stealing the potential for money to be made for the artist.

You still end up paying.

Potential? But what if you wouldn't pay for it anyway? What losses would be, you fucking idiot?

But Soundcloud is dying. And what if YouTube goes paying subscription only?
>>
But sex with a prostitute for free would be grand I believe, she would be like "wow this is my occupation but you seem like a true gentleman, so this one's on the house. I might even be your gf, Mr. Man" and we would make love and snuggle, then a few weeks later when we're all settled we would begin planning the wedding. After wedding her, I will finally be able to say "I have a true gf waifu wife" :^)
>>
Half the bands I like are unavailable digitally without piracy, and the physical copies cost a bajillion dollars.
>>
>>63636205
Holy fuck the newfaggotry in those replies
>>
>>63638694
Dan Barrett wouldn't be nearly as successful without piracy. the same goes for many indie comic artists (and yes they've directly stated this themselves). there's a tangible curve of how much piracy hurts you depending on your pre-existing fame. if you're a nobody it helps. if you're already famous, it hurts a little. like enough so that you can only afford one Lambo instead of three. so boo fucking hoo

This sort of attitude is what's gonna lose Trump the election.
>>
>>63636124
I do. But at a later point in time I go back and purchase physicals of the music because I want to support it and have a physical. If it's digital or on bandcamp or something it's just getting ripped though
>>
