I'm not sure how that got started. I'm sure Vektor was influenced by Voivod but aside from the logo there is no real similarities. Voivod has always been rocky thrash that sounds exactly like how I'd imagine metal made by old sci-fi nerds to sound like. Vektor is fast, technical thrash made by guys who played magic in high school and want to make a modern take on the music they would listen to while playing at the breakfast table.

It's basically wonderful in every aspect. A great dose of melodic/technical sensibilities in thrash with catchy songwriting that's highly dynamic (ex. the melodic development in Take no Prisoners) and entertaining. Killer Friedman solos all around, and it pretty much eclipses everything else by the rest of those guys imo.

No you don't. Progressive music implies more complicated songwriting and actual innovation. MOP is cool, but throwing in some melodic heavy metal sections in at times is not "innovative." It's not a complicated album either. Guys like Watchtower or Fates Warning were doing progressive metal not metallica.

Rust in Peace suffers from more flaws, and ultimately is just a good thrash album with a lot of technical and interesting guitar work. The rest of the album doesn't hold up, and Metallica's MoP outshines anything Megadeth did

I personally could not get through the first two songs on the album. No other work of music has ever made me laugh because of how horrible it is. Their idea of prog is mashing a bunch of jumbled ideas together and thinking it's somehow creative. Quiet World is incredibly cringey purely on that. It has bits of metal, some ambient prog shit, and what sounded to be a male gospel group. Nothing flowed, it was all smacked together, and the fact people actually compare it to worthy prog albums astounds me to absolutely no end.
