First for how the fuck do i play jazz improv.

Going into more detail, I went over my friends place who's been playing guitar for like 10 years, he can't play for shit and is really bad, but he played sax in school for ages and we both played to a jazzy backing track and his sounded like jazz wankery, albeit he fucked up so many times, but mine sounded kind of boring. He said I should get used to wierd time signatures and combinations of them, ect.

It's all the power and main cables coming out of the pedalboard. Are you asking what are they for?

DRRi. Looking to replace some tubes and maybe the speaker in the future, but in general I really like it and it takes pedals really well.

Pic related is what I recently added to the board. Damn fine Phaser.

A single line level signal, yes, I did. And before you shout out the whole noise/electrical interference routine, I ran tests looking for noise by isolating the line level, it makes no difference whatsoever in my situation. My setup is incredibly silent and the Decimator G-String II is there for anything else.

>>63623566
Not enough space to go around the cabinet.

>get a power supply
I have two, thanks.

>>63623625
I do, actually. The character of the amp definitely changes at higher volumes and when it's high enough to get that little power amp saturation it sounds incredible but raising the volume also has its negatives. It's a character of the DR to get boomy with these speakers when you raise volume. That can be an issue and ti's why a lot of people run them with the Bass knob at near zero.

Still, yeah, sounds great at very low volume. It's my fourth tube amp in 3 years but the one I intend to keep. There's a reason they're so popular, I just wish Fender didn't put shitty tubes in them and made a better choice of speaker.
>>
I've got two good overdrives, a delay, a nice reverb and a looper. Obviously I'm missing modulation but I realized only want one.

So tremolo, phaser or chorus?

I actually bought a flanger once and returned it because not for me.
>>
>>63623814

These are so drastically different effects that you might want to consider what your preferences are first.
>>

>>
>>63623814

>>
>>63623842
Not letting it be in contact or proximity with any power cable.
>>
>>63623814
What do you mean by the shitty tubes? You had to replace them upon purchase?

Asking as I'm seriously considering buying one.
Also, post more pictures of it with size comparisons if you can. :)
>>
>>63623312
Listen to a LOT of jazz beforehand. I recommend anything by Pat Martino, Bobby Broom, Wes Montgomery, and Jimmy Bruno. You need to like the way jazz sounds and internalize how the melody and chords shift. It'll help in the development of your own melodic sensibilities.
>>
>>63623814

However much you claim it's not noisy, that design is inherently more noisy than keeping the AC and signal cables apart. AC and signal lines running parallel to each other guarantees noise breakthrough. Relying on a noise suppressor once the noise is in the system is nowhere near as good as keeping the noise out in the first place.
>>
>>63623848
>>63623856

Fair points. I'm asking what is the fav of the three for everyone here.

I like all three but am leaning towards buying just one cuz I need to curb my gear spending and I'm building a custom board and amp stand and I want the board to slide under the amp stand.

Two wires for each power supply, one for the Echotone which has an internal dedicated power supply, one for the footswitch and one is the pedal output > amp input cable. So yeah, 5 cables in total.

Nothing I can do if I want to keep each pedal with a single dedicated and isolated power, which I do.

>>63623868
Fender uses those Groove Tubes which is essentially just rebranded russian tubes, some are EHX, some Sovtek and so on. Quality control isn't great and they're often mixed.

I bought my amp used (it was only about 1.5 years old with barely any use, though, so the tubes shouldn't be an issue) so I don't know how much of an issue they are new. I do however currently have two microphonic preamp tubes and one of the power tubes is dying (heavy blue glow, takes longer to warm/light up). It's the main criticism regarding modern Fender reissue amps. Not that big of a deal, though. I can replace them all for around $60.

Don't have many pics of my amp but here's another one.

>>63623918
I don't care how inherently noisy this design is. It either is noisy or isn't, I don't care how imperceptible and theoretical difference it would make otherwise. My setup isn't noisy this way so I don't bother to fix what isn't broken.

Fuck. I just closed the tab by mistake as I was about to post and lost my whole comment.

Anyway, people usually run the Bass on 0 (actually 1, it's the minimum marking) because the Deluxe Reverb tends to get boomy with the stock speaker as you turn up the volume. It's something to do with the way the circuit is designed. As you turn the volume up, the Bass also increases. Also, some say that on these amps, the EQ knobs are flat at 1 and you can only add to the frequencies, not remove, which explains why some people run the Bass so low.

Typically I run the Bass at around 3~5 in low volumes and 1~2 at high volumes. There are also more drastic mods you can do to change the way the Bass behaves if you'd like to go that route.

Haven't tried a Super Reverb but it should be quite different. It has 6L6 instead of 6V6s and should be quite brighter, just like the Twin. Some people complain about the Twin because too trebly so I'd imagine the Super Reverb also is. The Super Reverb should also be much louder at 45W and being a 4x10. Afraid I can't help you much past that other than by saying that the DRRi is already very loud on its own.

Didn't really understand your quote. Is this in reference that all these new tubes are made in the same factory in Russia? If so, I was already aware of that, though I'm pretty sure they're all made with different specs which is why they sound different.

Thanks for the tip on the TAD tubes, though. Will definitely consider them when I swap mine. I was thinking about going with some vintage NOS RCA ones but if the TADs are cheaper, they will probably be my choice.

There's a reason why the Deluxe Reverb is one of the most famous and popular amps in guitar history. If it were that bad and big of an issue, people wouldn't use it. Some may like it, some may not, but it doesn't have a inherent design flaw. It's a very popular amp.

I'm just telling you why people run the bass so low and the potential problems with the current modern reissues so you can be advised. I have no regrets at all about the DRRi, it sounds amazing. Best cleans I've ever heard in my life.

Not him but I usually recommend production tubes for the power section. Mainly since they're consumables and there can be a huge price difference depending on the tubes you use.

For the preamp NOS stuff can be pretty good value though. A lot of guys love Mullard stuff but I almost always use Radiotrons in my gain stages now.

Yeah, I meant different from each other, not different from the previous vintage versions.

I currently have a pair of Tung-Sol 12AX7s that I absolutely love and were definitely a big improvement. I have no problem whatsoever with modern russian tubes, as long as I can get some general reference regarding the difference between the "brands".

>>63625250
I have found that different brands of power tubes don't have enough effect on the tone for me to really care about such minor details. The only reason I plan on replacing mine is because one is currently dying. I'll definitely stick to production tubes for the power section and won't even bother with the current rectifier tube, which is working fine.

I agree with you about the NOS preamp tubes. The only reason I may go with the TAD the other anon mentioned or other current production ones is because I'm scared as fuck of getting ripped off by some shady eBay dealing on some fucked up NOS tubes that will die in a month.

They could be wrong and it could all be due to production tolerances, though.

not him but there's a reason showing off is frowned upon. To some degree you're shoring yourself up and putting other people down when you compare yourself.

Honestly I don't really think it's a big deal, no need to stifle your conversation by avoiding talking about what gear you have. It's all a matter of vanity anyway. I don't think people are vain enough to be annoyed by gear photos. Though posing them does push the envelope a bit.

Picked up the VB2 for $500 on craigs, not bad considering its only a year old next month, probably one of the last VB2's made before Peavey retired them.

My problem is I tend to set my bias to around 42mA so I chew through tubes. NOS KT-77s are stupid expensive.

I tend to stick to JJs for production stuff.

>The only reason I may go with the TAD the other anon mentioned or other current production ones is because I'm scared as fuck of getting ripped off by some shady eBay dealing on some fucked up NOS tubes that will die in a month.
Go down to a local radio station and see what they have laying around from old transmitters. I source all my preamp tubes that way.

Thats why I'm considering replacing them. I feel they're holding back the true potential amp the VB2. Its not a terrible sound with the Rubys, but there is def room for improvement. JJ's are on the top of my list. A sextet of JJ EL34L's for the power section. Read online they handle lows and mids quite well, which i assume would be good in a bass amp.

Okay /gg/, if you maybe played in a prog rock band and wanted an epic jam that most - if not all - of your audience would know the lyrics to as a set closer, what would you pick?

The obvious choices would be Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway, so I'm precluding those from judgement. I would like to get around to BR once my keyboard skills improve a bit, but for now I'm a few months off.
>>
>>63627273

It's /gg/ man
>>
>>63628587
queen is prog rock?

well anyway you can always use your own song. In my experience the best kind of song to get the audience to sing along with is a call and answer type song. Basically you get the audience to sing along with the backup vocals. It's best if the backup vocals are either repeating the same thing over and over, or if they're just immediately repeating the lead vocal. The advantage of this is the lead singer can encourage the crowd without any chance of an awkward silence.
>>
>>63628707
It's not so much that Queen is a prog band, more so that their music is fairly technical and theatrical, and a tune that moves through sections and styles like Rhapsody wouldn't be out of place.

And I totally agree with your suggestion, and as soon as we get something recorded in decent quality with lyrics posted, we'll probably do something just like that.

Right now we do a cover of "The Crowing" by Coheed & Cambria, which is a pretty grandiose song, so maybe that's fine. I've been listening to more classic prog lately (70s era) so I was looking for something along those lines.
>>

My bad, misread your post. IMO, any tube amp is going to kick the Line6's ass.

So, in that range (and in order of tone quality):

Kustom Defender (5 watt head) - can be purchased for around $100, frees up some of your budget for pedals and a nice cab.

Blackheart Little Giant (5w) - really solidly-built tube amp, nice cleans, breaks up really nicely for an overdriven sound.

Blackstar HT Series HT-5R - almost bought this one myself, definitely will need to buy used if you want to stay in your range but this is really a next-level amp up from the other two. You could do small gigs and record with this one, and its natural gain is fantastic. (In fact, pretty much all Blackstar amps break up really nicely.)

Fender Blues Jr. 15W - probably the best amp in this price range that you'll be able to buy used for clean tones. The clean tones on these bad boys vs. the cleans on the Line6 are like the difference between a meal personally prepared for you by Grant Achatz and a pile of shit. The extra headroom makes them great for doing bigger venues, and they're amazing amps for jazz.

Egnater Rebel 20 - my personal recommendation, I got mine for $315 used off eBay (head only) but you can probably find them for even less if you look carefully. Use the extra cash for a cabinet. These are amazingly versatile amps, and I use mine for everything from jazz to rock to metal. They respond very well to pedals, too. I would say they have a bit more modern-sounding, compressed gain when overdriven than, say, a Marshall, so just bear that in mind, but most people won't notice or care.
>>
>>63629186
Tom Sawyer maybe. Was thinking some Rush would be nice.
>>
>>63629095
