Hey check it out! Grouper's other band Helen dedicated a song to /shugazi/
http://youtu.be/apaARRr00Uw
do we like airs?
>>63615098
I do, pretty solid emo-gaze
I don't like listening to it while I'm happy though
>>63615098
I have to cause there's no emogaze alternative.
>>63615448
What about My Vitriol?

Really loving this album this song in particular is their other stuff worth checking out?

>>63616555
Isn't that album like all of their stuff?
>>63617253
By that I mean isn't that a compilation of all their material already?
It's also pretty samey but that's fine cause no one can sound like catherine cooper other than her.
>>63617231
Good first half, aight second half
>>63618115
yeah, without the vocals they wouldn't be anything noteworthy
>>63613652
burn
only good song on the album too
so what's /shugazi/'s 2016 AOTY?

that double e.p. is so good.
>>63621480
I'm gonna give it a first listen tonight.
I need something that sounds slightly happy, suitable for travelling. Is there anything like this? Kinda like the sweeter Slowdive songs.

Give me 2016's best. I've been out of this year's shugazi game for the most part.
>>63625373
I think shugazi's been kind of out of the music game for the most part. Except for Pinkshinyultrablast their album is crazy.
>>63625373
There was actually that Jesu/Sun Kil Moon collab that shugazi didn't really talk about too much.
>>63625373
Oh also a new Lush single.
>>63625373
New LSD and the Search for God
>>63626621
that shit was BAD
>>63624557

thats quite good
Thanks!
>>63626788
yeah i didn't listen to it yet but i guess i know what to expect now
>>63627166

>>63627166
don't listen to that faggot, it's good
>>63627774
>>63627985
i mean i'll find out soon enough
>>63628234
or you know, eventually.
i forgot it existed until i brought up the shoegaze chart on rym right before i posted that
Is there more drone metal shoegaze that's more like this instead of the
angelic process / nadja type stuff?
>>63617253
Damn I didn't know is there anything similar to them? I've listen to most of slowdives stuff too
>>63630749
Listen to the new A Sunny Day In Glasgow EP.
It's OP's pic.
>>63629085
Amplifier Worship obviously
>>63631496
not shoegaze though
Anyone heard of this? I quite like it, sorta sounds like Siamese Dream. Came out the same year, too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nXxoxPrILU
>>63631519
Neither is Absolutego but you called it shoegaze anyway
>>63631541
Oh, nah I was asking for droning shoegaze that more similar in style to that with its extreme lengths, but I wasn't calling it shoegaze. Cause a lot of the drone metal stuff that's also shoegaze is nowhere near that level that's on in that kind of way.
>>63629085
>>63631556

Early Jesu works should do as well.
>>63632188
Thanks, really appreciate the rec. Sounds a lot like Jesu so that's great.
But what I was really looking for was kind of just drones, fuzz, and feedback. Something with little focus on melody and everything on textures and noise. Length too. Like the heaviness of Boris or the Angelic Process but with the ambitious or extreme lengths. Maybe there's some Nadja like that, I need to dig deeper into their stuff.
>>63632482
Well, nobody was able to venture to the depths The Angelic Process did. There are some similarities when it comes to the sound, but nothing really close to them.
Have you tried Pyramids? They also had an excellent collaboration with Nadja.
>>63632759
>Have you tried Pyramids? They also had an excellent collaboration with Nadja.
I haven't given them an listen yet. I feel like I might have heard of them but I'm not sure.
I'll be sure to give that collaboration a listen.
What else is out there aside from Grandfeathered?
So when are you chavs gonna throw together an essentials mega that actually matches the flowchart

Savage Sister - Speechless
>>63634756
That was breddy good.
I wrote this article for my school's radio station about Japanese shoegaze. I figured I ought to post it here because /shugazi/ got me into Japanese shoegaze, so a bunch of the recs are things I've seen on these threads over the years.
http://kcpr.org/2016/03/24/ethereal-east/
Is A Sunny Day In Glasgow the best band making the most disorientingly trippy dream pop?
post yfw you realize loveless is the only good album and the rest of the whole genre is shit
Why do shitposts always seem to come around all at the same time?
>>63634756
I need to check this out.
>>63632759
>Well, nobody was able to venture to the depths The Angelic Process did.
Yeah, you'd have to be in some kind of intense depressive state to do that. Maybe it's better that no one else is able to...
>>63636583
Because they're samefagging
Can anybody recommend some gothic shoegaze?
>>63637640
The KVB
just got into Moscow Olympics, they remind me of slowdive.
>>63636606
sad 2bh
>>63628657
it's not good at all its mostly just JESU instrumentals while kozelek does his usual sun kil moon shit so you just hear post metal with a guy rambling about shit in the voice
too bad kozelek doesnt do red house painters stuff anymore
>>63638388
Honestly I've never really sat down and listened to any of the albums Kozelek's been involved in, so I've been putting off listening to that cause I wanna get into RHP first.
>>63638388
Doesn't sound too bad.
>>63619309

>>63615098

>Dreamo
i feel like calling something GOAT dreamo doesn't really mean much considering not much of it exists. it would be great if more did though.
>>63645320
True. I only know about Airs, Cloakroom and Pity Sex, but I'd say Airs is the best out of the three bands.
>>63642029
Reporting. GOAT live performance here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kNQeDlgBoc
>>63645457
Yeah I agree with that.
Airs > Pity Sex > Cloakroom
>>63645870
>>63645457
whaaa, cloakrooms great. further out wasn't anything special but Infinitiy is GOAT. much better than every forgettable release by Pity Sex.
>>63645870
>>63647395
listening to Airs now and the track Blue is phenomenal. Y'all fuck with Single Mothers?
>>63647457
Listening to Half-Lit right now. They're pretty good
>>63647395
My opinion of cloakroom kind of tanked when further out disappointed me.
But you're right, Infinity is still incredible.
Pity Sex still has that detached singing that I like so much. Yeah, I know it's the product of a lack of passion too, love it tho.

I don't know man, ASDIG's pretty unique. I also think to be making music at the level they're doing, you'd need to have been doing it for a few years already.
>>63649350
Why is twins so good?
Does the production kinda sound like it dulls down the tone of the guitars on this?

Fuck you and don't use Cocoa to shitpost, you fucking weeb
>>63652691
A little.
>>63652691
I'm also just realizing how some whirr songs pretty much sound like deafheaven with hushed vocals.
>>63652691
man that song "lines' off of this sounds totally like a melody sweet trip would have
>>63652691
can anything compete with Distressor?
were coming up on 5 yrs, and I cant think of anything that can match it's urgency and sheer magnitude
>>63653068
heard in another thread they might come out with new material. hopefully they do saw them twice last year not bad
>>63653094
They have some facebook posts showing that they whirr working on LP3.
I doubt they'd let the G.L.O.S.S. thing slow them down or anything, but idk if the label dropped them or whatever.
>>63653117
The label did drop them. They've been silent since the G.L.O.S.S. incident.
>>63653169
http://www.graveface.com/graveface-bands.html
Actually it looks like Whirr is still on their roster.
>>63653094
I saw them in 2014
it was a fucking mess
they're just not the same
distressor is fairly simplistic and that's what really makes it Amazing
It has patience, and yet projects energy.
the notes come in at just the right time
rip
>>63653187
Hmm, weird. Graveface made a statement about dropping them when the whole G.L.O.S.S. thing happened.

are there any bands that are like...dream pop, but also heavy as fuck sometimes?
>>63653482
Starflyer 59's first couple albums come to mind.
>>63653117
That's what I thought I'm sure they'll self release the album if anything and Nick Basset has been playing bass for Nothing so that gives me hope. Didn't know they posted on facebook still interesting
>>63653194
Yeah first time I saw them it wasn't a good show but I have to admit the second time I saw them they were great. Seems like they really polished their sound live
>>63653409
I remember noticing that listening to Blue haha good riff though
>>63653631
yeah I think Whirr took it to new heights, but still, it should be addressed.
All this recent Whirr talk got me into re-lisetning to their discog (except Around, which i don't have dl'ed atm).
Distressor is definitely their best work. I know Pipe Dreams isn't popular on /shugazi/ and the band doesn't like it either but I really enjoyed it.
hi /shugazi/. hows ur night going

>>63655348
LSD and the Search for God should cover this.
>>63655348
That song has this kind of more direct sexiness that I rarely see in shoegaze.
Although, that song might not really be shoegaze.
>>63655042
Totally.
>>63653117

p sure it was run for cover who dropped them. they were like doing multi label shit
