>thinking some "trill"kid from harlem can touch the rebirth of tha 3 6

A$AP Mob is the mainstream pop version of Raider Klan. They took the style, sound, fashion, hieroglyphics and made it accessible to a mainstream audience. The people who laid down the foundation were too abrasive for plebs like yourself.
>>
>>63602660

I thought so too but I've gave blackland radio a couple rotations recently and I go to say I find it more compelling as an overall work. The production and lyricism is superior in my opinion.

For the love of money is still my favorite SGP song tho, I can play that shit endlessly. Have you heard the re-master?

Sup /mu/, I haven't been to this board in a long time. Like 6 years. Nice to see that hip hop is more accepted now than it used to be. Figured I'd swing by to see if you guys could help me out.

Honestly, I just want something engaging and different. A lot of songs/albums seem to sound samey/derivative nowadays to me, and I just want to hear something in which the artist really tried to bring something new to the table. Whether that be flow, beats, or album concept, I'd appreciate whatever comes to your minds. I got a little list here of examples that I think would show you what I'm talking about.

Camp Lo - Coolie High: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fNDrUJwjlE
Awesome Blaxsploitation theme aside, Camp Lo's lyrical delivery on this entire album was definitely different, even from the more varied deliveries we saw in the 90s.

Cannibal Ox - Pigeon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKEg9K0-3Q4
The delivery here is different as well, but the track itself is also sparse, touchy and somewhat minimalistic while still carrying a strong boom-bap inspired beat. Might be a bit more familiar to people with a history with El-P, but it's definitely different.

Get It - clipping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23KrjwlkOZA
Clipping nabbed my attention by using a ton of instruments and sounds that aren't typical in hip hop to create beats that are easily hip hop but something else, as well.

Ur Turn - Solillaquists of Sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Q8L_-tPj-g
I fucking love these guys. The aggressive delivery on beats that are chill but driving carries a really good groove. It really reminds me of good fucking spoken word.

Oneirology - Cunninlynguists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNHPlDgl2cA
One song doesn't really establish what I love about this album, but it really was the first concept album I loved. It's based on dreams and just really captures that whole thing for me.

Killer Tofu - Overdoz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-KnTiCdsfk
I don't even know, man.

Welcome back.

I don't know if you're aware of it, but give Memphis Rap a listen, it's probably one of hip hop's most elusive genres, doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. It's mainly dark and sinister production dealing with sinister topics. It's like Memphis elusive brand of what could generally described as horror-core.

>logic
>>
>>63604350
precisely this
>>63604286
I personally don't skip tracks but there isn't really anything wrong with it I guess.
But this dude said he's skipping tracks on his favorite hip hop album. There is absolutely no reason why your FAVORITE album should have skippable tracks. That makes zero sense.
>>63604264
If it's your FAVORITE album, why can't you be 'arsed' to listen to one of the tracks for the 100th time you fucking queer, it's your favorite for a reason
>I said favorite ALBUM nigga
huh?
>>
>>63604350

That's flawed logic. Your classification of whats makes an album someones favorite is entirely personal. There's a plethora of reasons why an album would be someone favorite that isn't exclusive to the likability of every track.

It could be the production, the lyricism, the flow of the mc, the cohesiveness of its execution, the concept, e.t.c. There are notable example of weak tracks in some of the most critically acclaimed albums in music, is that supposed to retract ones enjoyment of it?

You have a narrow view of what makes people enjoy things.
>>
>>63604463
For me personally there a few albums which I find have a perfect tracklist for my taste, I don't dislike a single song. These are my favourite albums because there isn't a single flaw big enough for me to not listen to a track. My point is that most people have an album that has a perfect tracklist for them, as the guy stated originally Illmatic is one of those albums for him.
>>
>>63603448

It's basically a 10/10 album. There isn't a single bad track in there honestly.
>>

Not the guy you replied to but it's more eof the same, wierd beats and monotone father talking about molly and white girls, dope if you're in the mood otherwise just nediocre, father's novelty is gonna wear off soon if he doesn't get a little more experimental.

>ASAP Mob wrote better songs with more consistency

My sides. Lords never worry is trash. ASAP Mob are literally hypemen for Rocky with the only exception being ASAP Ferg.

Raider Klan has had far more notable artists. Denzel Curry and Xavier Wulf undisputedly beat anyone in the Mob. The rest of the klan is arguable.

The main argument here is that the Raider Klan is finished like >>63613250 stated, but Lords Never Worry was dropped in 2012 as well so it's safe to assume the same for ASAP Mob.

>>
>>63620445
damn I'm relistening to it right now and I think I'd bump it up to a special "GOOD-TIER". I still think the verses are super auto-pilot mode, but the hook is great. The beat does like 80% of the work though and I hate when London uses that one synth lead that I've recognized on like 5 of his other songs

Blame Atlanta. Either way producers have always been underrepresented in hip hop. With the rise of trap, particularly in Atlanta, producers are just as if not more infamous than the people who use their beats.
>>
>>63620816
Yeah it definitely seems to be more prominent in trap hip hop. But just because they're under represented doesn't mean they need to plaster their name all over the track. It definitely can ruin it for me if it's too much. Look at a lot of Future projects and they all do that shit "THE BEST DJ IN THE WORLD".

I've been listening to this for a couple days.

I really appreciate the way Dipset rappers flow. Their slant rhymes are crazy.
>>
>>63620883
Be honest, don't you find it annoying as fuck? I want to listen to music not arrogant callouts. Even if it's in jest.
>>
>>63620937
i used to think its annoying but ive gotten used to it and i like knowing who produced the song and it just makes it easier to remember. And in some songs its seems like they use the callout as a part of the lyrics for example in Kanye's "Father pt. 1"
>>
>>63620995
Nah man. I still don't like it. But to each their own. I'm happy to google it myself considering I'm interested in who produced what. After a while you get to know producers styles.

It makes me wonder what trap producers are going to do when it dies out. I don't see it as a genre with a lot of longevity.
>>
>>63620838

Check this out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o6QZUm8uho

It'll substantiate my point.
>>
>>63620995

Father stretch my hands pt. 1 wasn't made by Metro Boomin' all he did was add drums to a preexisting track.
>>
>>63619656
Me too. The new Cauzndefx wasn't that good so i'm hoping Airospace saves the day.
>>

Sorry, much more of an r&b feel lol my blunder
>>
>>63621103
Thanks, will watch.
>>
>>63621142
that proves my point even more, its used as a lyric
>>
>>63621158
boring.
>>
>>63621213

I know I just wanted to let you know. I wouldn't say it's a lyric but more of a branding like signing a painting. It's stupid but we've gotten to the point now where producers want to be big names now, and I can't blame them. Like I've said, producers have always been underappreciated in hip-hop and want their shine now.
>>
Real nigger questions: Why do so many hip hop artists talk slow as fuck in interviews? Are they camera shy? Dumb? What's the deal?

The only people I've seen really get into interviews were Vince Staples, Kanye and Pusha T.
>>
>>63621236
To each their own, anon.
>>
>>63621103
>taking tracks to the strip club
The fuck? I didn't even know this was a thing. Why would that even be a good indicator of whether a track is good or not? Release that shit online.
>>
>>63621305
completely agree, but to be fair - they deserve the recognition
>>
>>63597237
Just finished Slum Village's Fantastic Vol. 2
Wish the whole thing was as good as Fall In Love but it was still nice

6/10
>>
>>63621312

It's hard to say, it could be camera shyness or stage fright, it could be a act of sabotage, maybe it's a cultural thing. I have no idea.

For example Nas and Scarface are very intelligent when it comes to their music, but when they have interviews they come off as blubbering buffoons sometimes.

But if you see videos where they're chilling with their homeys or in a relaxed environment they sound like how you would expect them to.

I don't have an answer, it's weird phenomenon for sure.
>>
>>63621401
They do. But it still kind of pisses me off. I completely respect producers. Premo is one of my faves and I love that guy. I just don't like signatures all over them.
>>
>>63621386

It's always been like that for trap, or in the southern hiphop in general around the crunk era.

No one cares about critics, or music publications, if it doesn't bump in the club, then it's trash. The goal is not artistic, it's financial.
>>
>>63620858
Surprised you didnt pick up on the fact that they said big narstie was good
>>
>>63621559
yeah, its definitely a trap exclusive thing and you only really see it on mixtapes as opposed to albums.

>>
>>63621518
Yeah man, I mean surely they're pretty well educated if they've made it that far. I mean, watching Young Thug in a couple of interviews and he comes off as either fucked up on lean, stupid or just hates interviews.
>>63621584
Why are people like Future and Young Thug getting praise from reviewers then?
>>
South london drill/trap is best hiphop right now
>>
>>63621559

The best case scenario would be if people researched the track and learned who the producer is, but people are lazy and the MC has always been the stars. Honestly it's fine at the end of the day because production tagging is limited to trap music.
>>
>>63621638
Who should I listen to?
>>
How come there's no rappers out there as good as Kanye, besides Kanye?
>>
>>63621647
Yeah the only time I've ever heard it was trap. To be fair, as much as trap is growing in popularity, the producers behind more traditional hip hop are probably way more famous than people like metro, mike will, london etc.
>>
>>63598795

Yeah I feel you. Kind of a shame because the themes around trap music are pretty much all the same. Sex, drugs, lean, violence, braggadocio etc.
