What does /mu/ think of Van Halen?
>>
They look like faggots
>>
Despite the impressive guitar work they were nothing more than another obnoxious hair-metal band, and I don't understand why they get so much more praise than the others of the scene.
>>
Harmless fun rock
>>
You don't need anything after Women and Children First, and Sammy Hagar should've just kept chuggin' along with his own solo career.
>>
A great band that just got better with Sammy Hagar.

C'mon.... Fair Warning is kick ass.
>>
The first two albums were the best ones. Pure, raw, kickass rock-and-roll. Also Eddie was never able to recreate that crisp guitar tone on VH 1-2 again. His tone got increasingly mucky as time went on.
>>
Eddie was one of the best although Steve Vai and John Frusciante matched or exceeded him.
>>

Eddie literally defined 80s rock guitar just as Page defined 70s rock guitar.
>>
>>63568957
>John Frusciante
>innovating anything
Uh...
>>
>>63568541
overrated pieces of shit
>>
>>63569339
>implying any of those listed guitarists were innovative

Or as Eddie put it, "We lost a frontman but gained a singer."
>>
>dadrock
>>
Nah.
>>
Woke rock-and-roll out of the slumber it fell into in the late 70s. As it stood in 78-79...

>Aerosmith
Drug addicts.
>Black Sabbath
>Led Zeppelin
>Rolling Stones
Done. Stick a fork in them.
>Kiss

Top of the World sounds like it belongs in a car or soft drink ad.
>>
>>63568615
Hagar-era VH had heavy songs, you just don't know anything outside their singles.
>>
I just listened to the entire VH II and goddamn that album eats fire for breakfast except Dance The Night Away because token radio friendly track.
>>
Shit.
>>
>>63572108
This. We get >>63570059 who pops up literally every single Van Halen is mentioned and starts comparing heavy album cuts to TotW.

I'm not some rabid Hagar fanboy, I think he's a giant piece of shit as a person and I think that Van Hagar SHOULD'VE been a lot better than they actually were, but they had plenty of rockin' stuff.

Because as the other guy says, EVH redefined rock guitar in the same way that Beck, Page and Blackmore did.
