Genres.
I'm retagging all of my music and I've realized that the genre tag is often too generic or too specific to really make it useful as a sorting tool.
Do you use genres to sort music? If so, what genres do you use and how do you determine if an artist fits in a certain genre?
gorenoise
i determine if its gorenoise by how much it sounds like gorenoise

I use genres, not style or sub-genre
>WUT???
Style:metal
Genre: Doom metal
Sub-genre: Funeral Doom metal
Anyway I used to tag by sub-genre, and when I didnt knew (or when the genre didnt had one) by genre, by style if I didnt knew the genre....
then I decided to simplify and tag it by genre, after all it what the id3 tag ask

What you do with hardcore?

this seems like a good way to do things, but where would you put techno, for example?
I try not to get too specific or too broad, though sometimes I have to be broad if I can't find anything else to classify something as than like rock or alternative rock. I will get more specific if there's a certain subgenre I like a lot or have a lot of stuff in and think it's useful to sort by though. Like I have minimal synth and synthpop as two separate things. Even with this though I still have 79 genre tags.
