a couple of these songs im interested in. Jim James on candyman sounds dope and umo doing shakedown was the perfect choice. maybe jambands can be cool again and the modern scene will get more fans and revitalize itself. That won't happen though lol

Salon indeed sucks, but it is true, the Grateful Dead are cool now. Actually this is kind of old news, they got embraced in the underground at least 5 years ago, and more like 8 years ago with the early adopters.
Also, not going to name names, but a LOT of people in the music underground started out as Deadheads or jamband kids. It's partly why a lot of things went psychedelic.

Bullshit. The Grateful Dead are one of the most overrated bands in all of existence. Their stoned noodling country music is for old fucks still clinging to the last vestiges of their dwindling brain cells. Their fans are the worst kind of drug addled losers that preach love of the enviroment but then proceed to trash whatever national forest they're camping in this week.
Cool? The Grateful Dead are about as cool as a root canal operation.
They're too cool already to become a trendy hipster thing. I'd rather them stay what they are and not have all the obnoxious AnCo fans claiming they were into them all along.
