Cool group. I was really into them in high school. Too Dark Park is criminally underrated industrial album.

Seen em' 3 times live. Amazing. They always have great openers too.

Pic related is my favorite.

That was the first album I listened to. Convulsion scared me a bit when I first listened to it.
>>
>>63490049
I love that album. I'm actually going to listen to it right now, it's been so long
>>
>>63490080
I saw them live once and it was amazing. My favorite track from that album is The Choke. Sounds awesome on psychedelics.

That's good shit right there. Why does EBM get such a bum rap here anyway? It's a good genre.

Saw em twice, second time was supposed to be with VNV Nation which I was hyped about, but they dropped off last minute.

Which sucked, until I found out they replaced VNV with Frontline Assembly. I mean, holy shit, VNV is good, but what a show.

Saw VNV at the same place as well, Vic in Chicago. Also excellent. I thought it was a weird choice to bill the two together anyway, they seem to attract similar types for whatever reason but their music is so thematically different.

Who? Dwayne Goettel?
>>
>>63490357
I think there's a certain sophistication that entered the songwriting after, but I can see why a lot of people think this way. Sophistication isn't necessarily what you might want from SP.

I kinda look at it like two different bands, both of which I think are great.

>Why does EBM get such a bum rap here anyway?

Modern EBM is quite bad. The golden age for the genre seems to be the 80's.

>>63490391
Yup

Wasn't impressed at all with VNV Nation when I saw them live.

Now Frontline Assembly. Totally different story, they were fucking great.

Beautiful Dissonance: old puppy
Marketable to masses: new puppy

Or something like that

So much talent in SP and FLA, I know at one point Leeb was part of SP then he took his art in a different direction. I see SP and Coil as similar direction in their art and FLA and Front 242 as similar direction in their art. It's a bit complicated. I can see it in my head.

Maybe, it's definitely more accessible. I think some of the tracks off of GWotR are cool. I'm not too concerned about whether something's gone mainstream or not, as long as it's still appealing. Neuwerld and Goneja have some great vocal chopping, and I dig the feel of tracks like Use Less. I get a kind of 'Korn when they're on' sort of feel.

I guess it's just that I really like some of the better parts of nu-metal, as much of a bad thing that is amongst the scene, and late SP captures that feeling nicely.

I also think earlier SP is more about the entire pulse and pounding of a repetitive industrial sound, whereas newer SP focuses on... smaller pieces, if that makes sense? Lots of almost IDM style things happening within music that, admittedly, is more accessible.

There's good modern EBM if you know where to look:

Straftanz
https://youtu.be/1itGr9jsqGc

E Craft
https://youtu.be/9PSA4Cc7qNE

Prometheus Burning
https://youtu.be/q99_qsku4G4

But you're right, the heyday was in the late '80s.

Spasmolytic is a good example of what cEvin is capable of but he hasn't produced anything similar in the later albums. I think I know what you mean about accessibility but the new puppy does sound a bit too simplistic. I don't know if we'll ever get the old pup back.
>>
>>63490621

I guess calling it bad was wrong. I do like some tracks, like those, they're alright. Modern EBM is just too focused on the dance beats in my opinion, which makes the tracks sound very monotonous.
>>
How is their later material btw? I know they out out a new album a couple years ago but I stopped listening to them after The Process.
>>
Have you guys heard Cevin Key's side project with Edward Ka-Spel from The Legendary Pink Dots, The Tear Garden?

Weapon was ok. A hollow return to their older sound if you ask me. I did like the live DVD The Greater Wrong of the Right though.

I was listening to Becks Loser.
