This or Say Hey Kid
NotM was Death Grips best release
>>
I think the titles on Jenny Death are actually kind of lame, and I also feel like everything Death Grips put out after No Love, Deep Web has this cheesy kind of "secret club" vibe, like, "This is really dark and secret and scary and we're really mysterious." I don't know, it just feels more put on than everything they did from 2011 through late 2012, and their earlier albums had that kind of tone as well but it felt more authentic and less like they were trying for that. It's like they became aware of what they had achieved and were like, "Shit, we've gotta keep this up," and then it became kind of, I don't really know how to say it. It's not that their later albums aren't good. I think Niggas On the Moon quality wise is possibly the best thing they've done.

the very first time i heard it.
>she tune in telly through your shriveled button, pressed jaundice yellow. she's your experience, youre her experiment

Ride's most impressive lyric work is on Niggas on the Moon

it's dg's most human song. people who like it like it because they relate to it and connect with it emotionally.

once you listen to more music you'll understand.

Niggas on the Moon is the greatest piece they have ever recorded and if time isn't cruel, should go down as their most impactful. But TMS came out so rip to that shit.

>ALBUM RANKINGS
Niggas on the Moon >>> No Love Deep Web = GP First Half > ExM > Jenny Death = TMS > GP Second Half

>SONG RANKINGS

1. Up My Sleeves

3. Black Quarterback
4. Culture Shock
5. Hacker
6. Lock Your Doors
7. Anne Bonny
8. No Love
9. Billy Not Really
10. Centuries of Damn

I could put the entirety of NotM in the top 10 and it'd still be a valid list.
>>
>>63485911
wow haha

no man i'm just trying to say, just because you don't understand why people rate a song so highly doesn't mean they're 'rockists' or have 'shit taste'. it just means that they connect with it in a way you don't. that's what music is about. if you really can't appreciate what stefan and dg were doing with that song you're truly hopeless

again, listen to more music and you'll understand

it's embarrassing when i consider that this thread is likely comprised of teenagers who don't know shit about music/have developed pretentious ideals of what good music is because of this shitty ass board

TMS isn't even my favorite release of theirs but it is absolutely their best record. Anyone who disagrees with this is an insufferable try-hard baby.

Nothing from Government Plates either, I mean Anne Bonny is pretty good, dude.

Honestly I haven't given it as many listens as the rest, though mainly because when I have listened to it I haven't really enjoyed it much at all. Just seems very forgettable compared to the rest of their discog.

ty for conversing with me about this in a normal manner btw

>>63493018
Please kill yourself
>>
>>63493526
I felt pretty similarly about NLDW for a really long time too. I still think it's a pretty inconsistent album though. But if there's one thing I just can't ignore, it's how human and primal it feels when it actually throws something interesting at you.

Tracks like No Love, Lock Your Doors, Come up and get me. There's something to these songs that really are completely unlike anything in their discography up to that point. There's a very real sense of vulnerability that comes through in Ride's performance and the minimalist production definitely helps with this as well.

I would recommend going back to it with a different ear, instead of looking for killer hooks to nod your head to. NLDW is the album where I feel the theme of paranoia, fear and anger come through the best.

Given your love for Billy Not Really, I really would have expected Anne Bonny on your list, is it at least in the top 20? I mean it's one of their most legit bangers, perfectly blends the abstract with the relatable

>PLAY SOME FUCKING MUSIC BITCH
>>
>>63493778
That's all the convincing I need honestly. I'll set some time aside to give it a proper listen and not go into it with the opinions I've already formed on it.

Also, I actually only recently listened to GP for the first time as I never got around to downloading it, so I've only listened a few times. Should give it more time for sure.
>>
>>63493874
Great. I hope you find something new and interesting this time around. A lot of their material takes time to grow with, my favorites now, look very different from what they were a year ago. I'm just always rediscovering something in their discography and grow violently passionate about it.

Government Plates as a whole is one of those examples. For the longest time I didn't care much for it outside of Birds and Anne Bonny. But recently I've been really drawn to the production and mixing on it, the way it sounds is maybe the best they've ever sounded before, and honestly even if it is lackluster that there's less of Ride on it, the way he is sampled on some of the tracks really make for some incredibly unique instrumentals, using his voice as just another texture.
