Was this good?
>>
compared to what?

generally speaking, no
>>
Too many piano fadeouts.
Literally a caricature of their p4k acclaimed selves
>>
First two tracks were phenomenal, especially Luna which might be the best song they've done. The rest was mediocre and forgettable. not nearly as good and consistent as Sunbather.
>>
"no"
>>
Only Luna
>>

This album is what black metal fags wished Sunbather sounded like. Indie metal bullshit for apple commercials
>>
I liked it. Different direction but still same shit. Played and liked Sunbather more if that helps.
>>
I enjoyed it. Gifts For The Earth is a fantastic song.

Sunbather was used in an apple commercial

It was metalcore with shoegaze, fucking breakdowns man. Also that one intro sounds exactly like gy!be.

I love those fry screams at the start over the clean instrumentation. Really nice contrast. Clarke's vocal style really improved from Sunbather and I think the album was overall well made. Baby Blue was probably the only weak song on the album but then again it had a great ending too.
I can't say if I prefer it over Sunbather or the other way around. Depends on the mood but both are equally great albums, but in different aspects.

what is with this resurgence in writing off entire genres on /mu/ lately isn't that like exactly what we're against
>>

We're getting migrants from the cancer FB group that totally fuck this board up as the group continues to grow.

Have you even listened to New Bermuda? It's black metal with post-rock influences, there are some slight shoegaze-y tones or such but nothing apart from that literally makes it "blackgaze"
>>
>>63469044
>It was metalcore with shoegaze
What? If most metalcore were as dynamic as this album, that would be a compliment by any measure. Also, I don't think you know what a breakdown is.

Indiefags are just butthurt that this release was less digestible and showed more of its metal pedigree compared to Sunbather.
>>
>>63469044

What? Do you actually know what metalcore is or are you just throwing around buzzwords?

How? It's a great genre mix, and the best one that has emerged in a while for several reasons. Black metal has always relied on atmosphere and tension and the post-rock mix just add up to those aspects. Deafheaven especially pull that combo off really well

Sun bat her WOULD be good if it wasnt so long. Just take the good songs and make it a single LP instead of a double album and there ya go. Although I will say that the demo album was a little bit too short

Nearly all the post-rock that gets memed here is fucking crescendocore. For shit's sake, if the new Explosions album that leaked had been passed off as a new GY!BE album, most people here would be cumming buckets and you know it.

Vocal-less Post-metal (Russian Circles, Pelican) and Post-rock have always struggled to build direction and resolution in their music. Rather than fully adopting classical, instrumental formats that would allow this to occur organically, they attempt to continually shoehorn their compositions into relatively short pop structures that, lacking lyrics, demand meme elements like crescendos to artificially force structure and resolution of clunky musical ideas.
