Most edgy kid are riding the post AM reaction Arctic Monkeys hate train. Their first three albums are great.

Humbug > Whatever > FWN > AM > SIAS
SIAS is easily their worst. Just a watered down Humbug with half the songwriting chops. Despite it's reputation, AM has some pretty good songs.

Whatever was fantastic in the context of its release, not its quite simplistic and juvenile while FWN is a more focused and charged improvement.
SIAS gets a bad rep, mostly because its singles were utter shit. Brick by Brick gives me PTSD to this day

Actually I agree with you, FWN was an improvement. I think Whatever has higher peaks though. SIAS had some great songs (She's Thunderstorms, Reckless Serenade, Piledrive Waltz) but other than that it's just so unremarkable.

Honestly OP should stick to Whatever, FWN, a few of the B sides and the entire works of Milburn. That's the essential sheffcore. Could throw some Pulp in for old school flavour but its not required listening.
