>>
>>63351072
hey man, i've been listening to these albums for years, how can they be "shite?" I've liked the minutemen since the early 00's when i discovered them but i've grown up with all of these nu-metal bands back in the 90's. Guns n' Roses got me into music, AC DC was the next step and Slipknot got me into hardcore stuff which lead me to Korn and Sepultura. Then Tool really redefined my existence. Love that album but the rest of their stuff isn't that great. And after all the nu-metal stuff, I started like black flag, germs, smear, x, the cramps and that lead me to big black, husker du, minutemen and the gun club. What's wrong with any of those albums, m8? I'm 31 btw

>>
>>63351294
why does everyone hate gnr? have you actually listened to the full album? It's great and not just some "dad" rock band. Their pop appeal is no different from anco.
>>
>>63351255
what do you mean that's "fedora?" They're just a really well composed band that has intrinsic value based on objective merits. They changed how I view the world, which is a part of my existence.
>>
>>63351374
Absolutely, I was forced and memed into thinking that flashy guitar solos, and the whole "rock n roll woo yeah" aesthetic was good when I was a kid. But it doesn't make up for the fact that in comparison with other hard rock of the time it is incredibly bland and forced, the songwriting for many parts is woefully average (see, all the songs that weren't hits), the vocal performances are awful, and there are no layers at all that I can pick up from repeated listens, i.e. no replay value.

It's just not very good?

>muh angsty depression
>>
>>63351457
see, i think that's your biggest pit-fall on the album. Just because it's shown off as flashy and over-the-top doesn't make it actually just that. Look at it from an artistic view of expression which was youthful aggression communicated via the other side of punk rock. This album is no worse or better than the Ramones, which in fact it is actually arguably better in terms of musicianship. The Ramones were culturally important for their time which elevates their status but GNR did something with that style that is more than a product of its time. This may sound counter-productive to my prior point, but they sound really american. Which is a good thing. It's authentic, honest and the song-writing is actually pretty strong. It's passionate, angry, youthful and performed at a playful level. I suggest going in without any confirmation bias diluting your viewpoint on the work.

It's at least a 7/10 at worst.

age is irrelevant but i'm 31. I just identify good music when I hear it. I don't write something off because of its negative status. Shit dude, I like all sorts of things. Anton Webern, Alan Licht, Unwound, Elliott Sharp, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Krallice, Tangerine Dream, Tera Melos and etc. I have more than one viewpoint on music and i'm sorry you don't like GNR because they're "dad rock xD"

grow up

>>
>>63351533
It's literally just another hard rock album from the late 80's in a storm of OTHER hard rock albums from the late 80's. Nothing really sets them apart from a couple of songs, admittedly quite well written, with pop appeal. The problem is GNR's starting point was cockrock, making them pretty much doomed to lack any artistry.

I'm trying to argue with you as fairly as I can, all I'm going to say is, that it was never artistically relevant, it was mainly just fodder for kids to bounce around to.

hey i can respect your opinion. and if you don't like them, that's fine. but i still think you're taking them too seriously. They have strong pop appeal which is why they're so successful but they did so much with what rock had to offer them. A lot of people missed the point. All i'm saying is i think you're missing out on the best part and you should revisit that if you want.
>>
>>63351802
I can't argue with that, they must have some pop appeal that maybe I just don't see, I mean there's been pop albums that have been recommended to me on /mu/ over the years that I just did not enjoy whatsoever.
>>
Recommendations please
>>
>>63351848
all is good. i think maybe i like them because they were such a big corner-stone in my appreciation and development for music. I did not like them after I got into stuff like Radiohead, the Smiths, The Beatles, then Can, Captain Beefheart, Faust, Neu, etc but after revisiting that album it's actually really good and more than I thought about when I initially liked it.
>>
>>63351885
