Oh shit, I didn't even know he died. What a shame.
>>
>>63338992
His girlfriend literally killed him for Jesus

?

I was just watching a documentary on youtube about Minutemen, fuck it made me so sad, I had to stop watching it. D's mom died when he was 18, the bands worked so fucking hard to get where they were, not like the spoiled middle class brats who dominate music today. Every time I listen to Corona it makes me sad. What a talented band though, without them I don't think bands like Slint would sound they way they did.
>>
It's like if Brian Wilson died right after releasing Pet Sounds
>>
>>63339121
It's a weird way of saying that she was driving the car to a Christmas party and D. was stupidly sleeping in the back of the van without a seat belt, just fucking laying in the back like an animal. His girlfriend took a sharp turn and D. flew out of the van and snapped his neck.

Shit tier way to die.
>>
>>63339121
His girlfriend was driving him to either his or her parents for Christmas when she crashed the van killing him instantly.

hence, get in the van.

He had finally found a perfect lineup for his project, but a bad day, a little too much alcohol, and a weak railing killed him at the peak of his creative genius.

>His girlfriend took a sharp turn and D. flew out of the van
oh wtf I didnt know that. I assumed she crashed.

No, Get In the Van is Henry Rollins's Black Flag memoir. The title is just a reference to touring.

Very recent, but Keith Emerson. I mean the man did for keyboards what John Entwistle and Jack Bruce did for bass. To think he was so dedicated to his craft that he would literally rather die than not be able to perform and play is so amazing that its sad.
>>
>>63339194
Sleazy's too
>just fucking dies in his sleep at the age of 55
>>
>>63339225
THIS
oh my god the potential he fucking had. all of his music sounds way ahead of it's time and he was just simply the victim of an unfortunate circumstance and an awful fucking time to be alive.
>>
>>63339198
It's not really his girlfriend's 'fault,' though it could be considered manslaughter I don't know. D. was a fool for getting in the back of the van and falling asleep, his girlfriend is a fool for letting him do it. It's not as tragic as it may seem when you look at the situation. It's not like he was shot or something.

>It is said at the end of the concert when the band finished its last song, Shinji Sato, the band's frontman, with his eyes watery, let out a final "goodbye" before immediately leaving the stage. This was to be Kashiwabara's final performance with the band, though Sato and Motegi planned to continue working as Fishmans. However, Sato died the following year on March 15 due to heart problems that he had suffered since birth.
>
>>
>>63339203
No other death in music has hit me as hard, when I found out D was dead after I got into Minutemen and read about his, and the rest of the bands life, it just depresses me. They were a band from a working class town who somehow just managed to come up with this really distinct sound that put so many other alternative bands of the 80's to shame. They just seem like such honest and sincere guys, no bullshit like when you watch interviews with other bands, it's literally just them being themselves.
>>
>>63339225

Telstar was fucking huge. Had the French cunt not sued him, he would have been able to pay off his debt and build a real studio.

Also, he had been planning to work with Bowie. He died before that happened, but could you imagine Ziggy Stardust and all his other space-era music with him behind it?
>>
>>63339218
>Jeff Buckley
Fucking this. He had so much fucking potential it was unbelievable. Imagine if he got to release as many albums as his father. Shit would have been insane.

>>63339225
This too. Such a shame.

Also, Richey James Edwards. He wanted the next Manics album to sound like "Pantera meets Screamadelica meets Nine Inch Nails". Shit would have been nuts. We got Everything Must Go, which was pretty good, but damn...

While he had long stopped making masterworks, his actual death will never not be depressing.

>Wife and oldest son are randomly shot while walking home from the grocery store in NYC
>Ends up moving down to Florida to get away from it
>Has a heart attack and has to step down from doing the intense junkanoo performances he loved.
>Did slow Jazz in Louisiana for a few years before he could no longer do that
>Traveled back and forth between Florida and the Bahamas, but his money ran out - his Bahamian watercolors were not a big seller
>His last few years were spent desperately trying to get money to record a new album
>An old superfan finds him and begins the process of getting him on the road of getting back into the studio if he can get him back to NYC
>He doesn't hear back from him, so he flies down to Florida to find out what's up
>Finds him dead on the floor in a run down house; he was alone for around a week
>Bugs had eaten most of his paintings and tapes, so nobody knows what his last works were

Well, if there's one happy thing to know, his death wasn't totally ignored. Thousands of Junkanoo fans and musicians traveled up from the Bahamas to pay their respects. I'm guessing they weren't aware of how much trouble he was having with his health and finances.

I hope more of his watercolors surface someday. They're really nice.

How old are you? I'm 25, when i was younger piling into a van was just something you did, it's nobodys fault, today people are way more cautious with everything they do, but back then, it was just something you didn't really think twice about, you certainly don't think that someone is going to crash your fucking van everytime you get into it. It's such a tragic way to go and a freak accident.

Marvin Gaye's death breaks my heart. His dad was a pretty fucked up guy. Gay Sr. had always warned his kids that if they ever struck him he would kill them. Marvin hit his dad when Sr. was beating on Marvin's mother and they all knew that was it.

Shot him 8 minutes after an altercation they had over Sr. entering Marvin's room when he didn't want him there.

Really sad loss of a legend over nothing.
