Rollins seems like a really likeable guy, especially now. Yeah, he seems like a douchebag in the 80s through the 00s, but throughout the '10s he's been an open-minded, self-deprecating activist type. And while I'm not really a fan of his work, I respect what he's accomplished - he's written one of the most significant rock books (get in the van), while Greg Ginn was the driving force of Black Flag, it was Rollins' presence that turned them from just another LA skate punk band to the heavy punk innovator it became, thus inspiring sludge metal, Rollins Band was one of the major alternative bands of the 90s and one of the ones with the most integrity, he ran a publishing company, he helped run SST, one of the most important indie labels ever, and then in middle age he became a documentarian and activist. And honestly, that activist documentarian work is where he has the most talent.
He's no Iggy Pop or Kurt Cobain. He's not even an Ian MacKaye or an HR. But he's so driven and productive that he's inspiring.
