how can anyone excuse how fucking terrible /mu/'s taste in jazz is? no one on here knows ANYTHING
whats your aotysf
How many albums has Bill Frisell released so far this year?
but I listened to The Epic
in a silent way is probably the greatest jazz album of all time and you cant even dispute that
>>63321848
yeah that new massive attack ep was pretty good
>>63321889
I dispute that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKwBWPcRw1Q
i know enough. jazz sucks
>>63321848
If this isn't on your jazz list, you don't HAVE a jazz list!
>>63321863
>>63321878
ironically, my favorite so far has been the colab between Charles Lloyd and Bill Frisell, but I haven't listened to much 2016 stuff. I know that Bill's been on a ton because he's been in overdrive these days, you can check allmusic.
But this isn't about me, it's about /mu/
>>63321889
and Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song ever
>>63321930
>But this isn't about me, it's about /mu/
yeah and I know the number and you dont so fuck off
before I get really angry
whats your take on the blindfold test threads?
>>63321912
i was gonna talk shit about "Jerzy Mazzoll" as being a literal who? but then I saw on discogs that he did a record with John Jasnoch who's my fucking boy so you got lucky this time :3
>>63321930
>coincidentally, my favorite so far
ftfy
there's nothing ironic about that. maybe you should spend some time in /lit/
Because I only just got into it
get off my back
>>63321965
>>incidentally, my favorite so far
ftfy
there's nothing CO-incidental about it.
>>63321957
it's a big waste of time, this week was a bunch of super shitty, boring, outdated, meaningless 50s and 60s organ tracks, i don't know why people worship jtg when he likes such unadventurous music, i guess because he and his clique are really nice to people who recognize basic hard-bop artists so they condition em with niceness. the concept would make sense if they chose tracks with variety but they don't because the guys picking the lists dont have taste
>>63321965
you don't see the irony in me criticizing the board for drawing their taste from such a limited pool of knowledge when my favorite of this year heavily features one of the most popular modern jazz musicians on this board? okay... :(
>>63321983
you need me to get on your back or you won't develop taste
>>63321986
the fuck there isn't
the coincidence is that the question was asked right after aotysf
both by me INCIDENTALLY
>>63321961

>>63322165
>contemporary european free jazz isn't fedoracore you manchildren!
yeah man, you got it! those plebs were, like, absolutely told, dude
>>63322165
>fedoras just like epic hard bop and le coltrane sun ra bitches brew black saint and the sinner lady memefest shit
Do you not get any sort of human interaction outside of /mu/? I've read over this post like 5 times already and it's leaving me speechless.
>>63322269
>thinking that HatHut is all european
>not knowing its half american
wow you don't know what you're talking about, what a surprise, almost like plebs who say "fedora" in 2016 are ignorant
>>63322008
i recently discovered Griot Galazy and faruq z. bey. thoughts on this?
furthermore, an album i keep coming back to lately has been Julius Hemphill's Dogon AD, whats some of your fav jazz thats avant-garde-y but not as rhythmically free and uses lots of odd time-signatures?
>>63322366
>Dear diary, thanks to the most intelligent of all anons, I learned today that Switzerland was half american. May God bless this naturally gifted individual
>>63322401
I don't know anything about Griot Galazy, sorry. For avant-garde jazz that doesn't go completely off the rails rhythmically you should check out the whole cult around William Parker and everything he's been up to the past 20 years or so, that mathew shipp album i posted actually might be a good intro to his stuff
>>63322423
i posted an album of four american musicians that was released on hathut
would you describe that album as european? hahahahaha dummy
>>63322592
>I don't know anything about Griot Galazy, sorry

gonna check out Strata
>>63321848
God I love those HAT covers
Anyway, I can't claim to know much about jazz either, but I've recently finished up all of the bebop and modal essentials, and now I'm delving into all of the surface level stuff (as well as the odd recommended album here and there) to really build my knowledge of the genre
I've really enjoyed it since I was a kid but was never really knowledgeable, so I guess I'm filling the holes
Also, have you listened to Gerry Hemingway's Marmalade King?
