Prove to me this isn't the most personal, honest, greatest song of all time.

You're the only other person in the world I have seen that has said a good word about it. It's underrated as fuck, I love that song.

In a perfect world, Rock n' Roll With Me was the song n the OP, and 1984 was actually this.

what makes it even more impressive and underrated is the fact that bowie played guitar and saxophone throughout diamond dogs

Diamond Dogs is my favorite album. Bowie and beyond.

For me, as a person, it hits all the themes and ideas I care about. It sounds great. And once you grab all the errata, if it was a 7/10 or 8/10 album to you, it turns easily to a 10/10. In some classic postmodern bullshit, with the creation of the album, its background, the fact it exists - it becomes perfect. Bowie worked so damn hard for it to even exist. The guitar, the sax, all the greatest parts of it down to the lyrics, he made it fucking happen, and one can only love and respect that.

Top that all off with it sounding fucking great and, yeah, favorite album ever.

Diamond Dogs is criminally underrated. It really manages to transport you to a different world in a different time.

Posting my favorite from the album just because.

absolute truth

Fourteen years plus of solid fucking gold and people overlook it all the time. Like I said, he put some effort in for it to even exist, and people overlook it. It's better than Ziggy ever was, to me. It tackles head-on tons of stuff most people don't even think of, and does it in a way I love. I also have a hard-on for long songs and suites, so it, basically, having an overture with "Diamond Dogs" and then launching into the "Sweet Thing/Candidate" suite really caught me.

That's the most amazing, off-putting end to an album ever devised. Very scary. Some day soon, it'll close out a movie and everyone will lose their shit, I guarantee.

That's one of those themes that latches me onto the album. In a low-key way, it establishes and explores the ideals and viewpoint of a normal citizen, Big Brother himself, and a lover of Big Brother. It is such a literally progressive work it isn't even funny, and it's basically lost to time already.

one criticism for the album which I've seen is that it's a poorly structured concept album, because it was originally meant to be a musical.
that makes no fucking sense. in fact Diamond Dogs has a greater affinity to it's concept than most other concept albums i've heard. you can easily pinpoint a dramatic rise and climax (1984)

the thing that has always stuck out for me with diamond dogs is the amazingly threatening and deep vocals at the start of sweet thing.

That's exactly my point! If you get it, if you know what it is, it makes perfect sense, even in the arrangement it has. It explores its themes and ideals and has a clear arc and story to it despite its misgivings and history. It's perfect in its own way.

It could still be a musical or film, in its own way. I think it will be. I have the idea for it, I know how to write it. It definitely has a set arc and way it can go.

The vocals right at the start of Sweet Thing are great, absolutely amazing. They are literally the deepest Bowie ever went. I'm glad they stick out to some, because that is a really underrated moment. It's great to hear the live recordings of it, too, even if they're imperfect. Man had such range.

The deep vocals were slowed down.

i'm pretty sure they weren't
bowie has demonstrated many times his voice can be that low
he also sings that low when performing sweet thing live

I don't know about personal and honest, but I always get shivers when he starts screaming in Rock & Roll Suicide.

That's what I was about to say. He clearly went deeper in live performance, whether he could keep that low note or not.

Here's something mildly unrelated.

Absolutely. That's personal and honest. Any measure. It's kinda pleb, but that is a great moment from him.

Bowie was, by and large, a synthesis of and greatest hits of art and life \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
