I finally realized how good this album is in its entirety. It only took me 12 years!
>>
her voice on the earlier releases is god tier

Now you're older, you have wisdom and taste. You're no longer a teenage cocksucker nibbling at the fat of music. Or your mom.
>>
>>63260936
>You're no longer a teenage cocksucker

Yeah, I'm ugly and undesirable now. :D
>>
>>63260717
seriously, everything she's released has been golden in its own way. Although her live versions of milk eyed mender songs are best.
>>
>>63261107
Yeah, I love how varied her albums are. Each a different flavor; each has been my favorite of hers at some point. (Well, I guess I'm in an intense Divers–MEM phase right now, so they're neck-and-neck.)
>>
Not to mention her lyrics are absolutely life-affirming and just phonetically gorgeous.

Definitely my favorite lyricist ever (apologies to Leonard, Joni and Stephin Merritt).
>>
>>63261166
That's the best thing about Joanna, all of her albums have been my favorite at some point, and that even includes one of the unofficial bootlegs of her concerts (Bottletree Concert). Right now I'm all over Have One on Me, it's probably her comfiest album (though Divers may take that spot).
>>
>>63261227
life affirming lyrics and intimate vocals, one of the best flavor combos.
>>
>>63261755
>comfiest

But it's so devastating. Baby Birch, Go Long, Kingfisher, Does Not Suffice...
>>
>>63261107
>Although her live versions of milk eyed mender songs are best.

This version is god-tier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CprS7irIVCE
>>
>>63261818
Yeah, emotionally devastating songs aside the intimacy and warmth of her voice throughout all these tracks are like having her sing right next to me, I don't know how to describe it. It's ethereal.
>>
>>63260717
anyone know where to find the version of en gallop that starts at 1:57

You must be a woman then, because men age beautifully, and women age like milk. ;)

Yeah, pick any older man at random and admire his inevitable beauty
>>
>>63261987
literally, and I mean *literally* doesn't get any cuter than this
>>
>>63261987
She's obviously never seen a seahorse give birth.

>>63262124
She's like a child, idk how Andy Samberg can have sex with her without feeling creepy.
>>
>>63262207
>She's like a child, idk how Andy Samberg can have sex with her without feeling creepy.
Its a miracle
>>
>>63262124
I honestly can't tell if she's stoned or camera shy or something, but she can really pull off the manic pixie dream girl thing, she's just the most adorable thing ever.
>>
>>63262207
>She's like a child, idk how Andy Samberg can have sex with her without feeling creepy.

I don't know man, she's all woman in real life, that child-like nature of her personality probably comes out more in interviews and such rather than in her personal life.
>>
>>63262369
Yeah, I think it was more of an affectation back in the day, or maybe genuine but she just grew out of it (like someone said, camera-shy).

She's not as childlike in this interview:

>you will never get stoned with young joanna newsom
>>
>>63262419
I think it was more than affectation, cause she never liked the whole childlike comparisons people made of her back in the day. I just think this was an eccentricity that she shook off around the Have one on me period.
>>
>>63262492
why even live? though I hope I still have time to get stoned with grown up joanna newsom

7. Peach Plum Pear

Was really hard to choose, except the first and last song.
>>
>>63263401
switch bridges and balloons with inflammatory writ and put swansea a few notches down and then that's my vote.
>>
She sounds like a little girl in this + her first EPs.
It makes me feel weird.

Swansea is so qt, though

>>63263734
I also had a labrador, the song always reminds me of him. This part is just brilliant:

>And the love we hold,
>and the love we spurn,
>will never grow cold
>only taciturn.

1. Swansea
2. Sprout and the Bean
3. The Book of Right-On
4. Cassiopeia
5. "En Gallop"

7. This Side of the Blue
8. Peach, Plum, Pear
9. Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie

12. Inflammatory Writ

Whenever I listen to this album I usually replace those last three tracks with Erin, The Fray and What We Have Known.
>>
>>63264231
Give Inflammatory Writ another try, senpai. I also didn't like it for a while.
>>
>>63261987
What exactly do you mean? It's a live performance. You're not going to find a studio recorded version, you're just going to have to download the audio from that video.
>>
>>63262419
Even in this 2006 interview, she didn't act childlike:

That Wurlitzer on SOTB is so gorgeous though, and I love the vignette-narrative.

And The Book of Right-On has such a good melody, and Sadie is gut-wrenching.

I can't really fault you, though. I love the whole album. "En Gallop" used to be my favorite, but I overplayed it.

yoooo the version of sawdust and diamonds from that show is heavenly tho
