The more I listen to Government Plates, the more attached I get to the various weird experiments on it. The way they use the samples on it is something else, I assume like NOTM, most if not all of this stuff is performed by Zach on v-drums. I love all the layered sounds and the way Stefan is used like another texture to the soundscape.

Perfect example is on Im Overflow, he almost serves as like a secondary beat in the background of the hook. FLO FLO FLO FLO FLO LALALALALAALALLALALALALALALALA DOPE DOPE DOPE

The production is fucking incredible and it was such a perfect evolution of their sound at that time. They started out with recognizable samples and moved towards minimalism on NLDW with very obscured samples to this crazy experiment that is just littered with them sampling themselves. I wish I could say the album fully delivers but there's still a lot of songs that are hard to really get attached to due to their short length and not going anywhere.

I hope to see them return to this at some point. Their best sounding album, but flawed because it just wasn't as fleshed out as it could have been. I feel like I've had my fill with live instruments after JD, I don't know where else they can go with it.

It feels really bipolar, it has insane arpeggios with "FUCK WHO'S WATCHING" shouted out crazily as well as these really crushing and somewhat depressing waves of noise; the "fucker, you'll be alright" lyric always hits me for some reason. Another great part of the song is its music video, its both sad and funny.
