That's sort of the whole point of "great" albums. Looking in retrospect, you think you should be cumming from listening to an album, but that never happens. Great albums and classics were albums that were instantly liked and considered good stuff by many people.

Loveless has some pretty melodies (even though they're almost all the same) and it definitely stands on its unique sound and textures, it's really evocative and sorta like a sonic trip. I think that's what makes it great.
Meanwhile, Ziggy sounds like glamier Beatles with a very square, traditional rock and roll sound and some lyrics about becoming a rock star and then suicide.

Ziggy is a great album that sounds really dated, the way I see it. It's powerful, and you can't deny its qualities, but that generic glam rock sound some tracks on it have is killing me. I don't know if this can be attributed to lack of innovation.

I just don't see how it holds after Here Comes, or how is it not covered in the shadow of Before and After Science. It's a different album, sure, but I really don't think it's the top of Eno's pre-ambient period. I obviously can't deny the influence it had, and it is far from bad.
