>Julian Casablancas+The Voidz - Human Sadness
>>
love u guys

who else listening to strokes tonight?

slapping alone together right now
>>
>>63235494
Thanks for reminding me. They're probably my most listened to band.
>>
>>63235655

I've been binging on their music for like 8 months straight now, I'm falling out of love with them right now but they're still the only band that can hit me in that spot. So I guess I mean I know how you feel
>>
>>63235494
Probably will at some point. Wish I could a girl that actually likes the music and not just Julian. Wish I could find a girl in general.
>>
the strokes were the first band I fell in love with when I was 14
the first girl I fell in love with loved them just as much

tfw I'm 22 now and can't listen to ITI/ROF/FIOE & Phrazes without crying

kill me please
>>
>>63236006
Andrew?
>>
>>63236006
I identify with you.

The Strokes were the only mainstream indie rock band who could hold my attention for an entire album when I was about 10 years old and my dad bought Is This It.

Room On Fire is my current favorite. I hate it when people hate on them because Julian is a top-notch songwriter, and their GBV influence lets me know they're more than people give them credit for
>>
>>63235100
this doesn't prove anything
>>
>>63236302
no, sorry :///
>>
Did everyone hear about a new strokes single that might be released soon or something? I think nme posted it just then
>>
>>63236452
Your stories match almost exactly. Idk if its the same in your case, but my Andrew's ex said he was the only guy she ever loved, and that you broke up with her.
>>
reminder Julian wrote all of their debut himself
>>
>>63236470
*Posted the rumour not the single
>>
>>63236478
he's truly the last great rock star. too bad everything after iti is mediocre
>>
Why isn't Albert they're lead guitarist when he plays the harder parts most of the time?
>>
>>63236392
yes it does? it's literally audio proof for your ears.
>>
>>63236478
First three albums actually senpai
>>
>>63236499
Room On Fire is literally better.
>>
>>63236506
>they're
Jesus christ me
>>
>>63236499
ROF is good and tyranny is really really good
>>
>>63236521
i will fist fight you
>>
>>63236521
he wrote most of that too
>>
>>63236506
Friendly reminder that Albert Hammond jr wants to leave the strokes and do solo stuff
>>
ITI: 10/10
ROF: 10/10
FIOE: 9.5/10, would be 10 without 15 Minutes and Fear of Sleep
Angles: 7/10
Comedown Machine: 9/10
Phrazes: 9/10
Tyranny: 9/10
>>
>>63236552
Okay, they're just as good.

No but seriously if you think RoF is mediocre I urge you to listen again, it's definitely on a par.
>>
>>63236499
The first three Strokes album are great. The ones after the reunion are good too, as is the solo work from all the members and The Voidz.
>>
>>63236574
I think FIOE is like a 6, the first time Ilistened to it I loved it, but it does not age well at all
>>
>>63236588
it's like a 6/10 but it just doesn't compare to iti. it just sounds like iti throwaways
>>
>>63236574
>15 Minutes and Fear of Sleep
Really? Those are two of my favorites, especially Fear of Sleep
>>
>>63236478

his music might have some failings sometimes but he might honestly actually be a creative genius

>>63236006
I say the right thing but act the wrong way, I like it right here but I can not stay

sorry man

I hope their next album has a concept or is made like a story or something, I feel like that's what their discography really needs
>>
Is this it is unironically the best album ever made
>>
>>63236574
Is this like Weezer where everyone says that have like 5 decent albums, but really only one?

>guys listen to Hurley and the green album they're great!
>>
Shame nothing really compares to their debut. Room on Fire doesn't sound as effortless.

Funny how a bunch of trust-fund kids could pull off something like that.
>>
>>63236629
How so?

Most of the songs on Is This It aren't as strong as the ones on Room On Fire. They even managed to make reggae rock sound good on that album.

I can honestly say you've been memed into thinking it's mediocre
>>
>>63236689
no. Weezer literally fucked up and fell right the fuck off after Pinkerton
>>
>>63236689
Who the fuck says that about Weezer? Even the Blue album and Pinkerton are iffy, The Strokes however are a genuinely solid band
>>
>>63236717
Well no. Weezer were actually good before the Green Album, you do know this?

Can y'all imagine how critics would receive Is This It nowadays?

I feel like it'd be filed away as a decent garage record and criticized for its simplicity and debonair lyrics.

Fuggin shame.
>>
>>63236773
Never seen this photo, thanks anon
>>
>>63236799
No fucking way dude, the flow of the album is so good and consistent, it's literally impossible to dislike ITI
>>
>>63236752
I've heard everything up until Maladroit, it's all pretty iffy to me. But the first two are better than the others. Just because they get good reviews doesn't mean it's objectively good.
>>
>>63236799
though that's because Is This It basically sparked and re-popularized garage rock for the 2000s
>>
>>63236838
>get good reviews
it's time for you to learn about Pinkerton.
>>
>>63236668
So fucking this
>>
>>63236799
>it'd be filed away as a decent garage record and criticized for its simplicity and debonair lyrics.
as if it wasn't already mediocre. I enjoy for how easy-listening and short it is. they pale in comparison to the originality of Television.
considering the lack of any compelling music nowadays, i think they would've received the same praise as back then. the music industry nowadays looks more fragmented.
>>
>>63236838
Honestly I don't even care about Weezer but Blue and Pinkerton are better than Is This It and RoF respectively.

All the albums that came after in both discographies are boring as fuck and have exhausted any creativity either band had.

I would prob give up my left arm for pic related desu
>>
Any bands like The Strokes that are actually -like- the strokes? Balkans and Little Joy or the only two bands I've found that capture what ever it is I'm looking for.
>>
Can someone reccomend a good Guided By Voices album to start with for someone who loves The Strokes?

Phoenix. Great example of a band so big that they actually become overlooked/underrated
>>
>>63236942
just think though. In the future when time travel is readily available as a consumer product, you'll be able to see that concert.

You'll be there yet anon, you'll be there yet.
>>
>>63236956
I don't know if it's just me, but The Killers first album reminds me of The Strokes in a good way. Most bands I've heard that sound 'like' The Strokes are usually really weak and are just a very poor man's version of them.

Prob alien lanes or bee thousand although i think pic related is very underrated. Also relevant article: http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/04/albert-hammond-jr-revisits-guided-by-voices-alien-lanes/
>>
>>63236977
alien fuckin lanes

give it three spins you'll be singing straw dogs in the shower
>>
>>63237010
Should I listen to their earlier stuff or something? I remember starting with the album that had the most downloads on what.cd and I was really disappointed. Plus I actively dislike that "ballin ballin ballin" song, which I'd never had the displeasure of hearing the full version of until I listened to the album.
>>
>>63236799
They'd be looked at as being derivative of all the trends they set in 2001 with ITI came out.
>>
>>63237044
Love Hot Fuss too, but I've always thought of it more as The Queen Is Dead Pt. 2.
>>
>>63237134
I'd start with either Bankrupt or United but you do gotta get into Wolfgang, that's a classic record for a reason m8
>>
>>63236478
reminder that he admitted every single bass line on is this it is just a rip off of the cure
>>
>>63237200
anon you replied to here, I don't hear that at all. I can hear a big Cure influence on The Killers but not The Smiths.
