Looking at pictures, a lot of metal musicians from the 80s were handsome. Besides the unaesthetic nature of music itself, this might be the key why heavy metal is one of the most unpopular forms of music.

Classical sucks ass though its stuck in the mindset that art has to follow strict rules just like literature used to follow strictly the rules of its distinct era. With post modern art creativity was made popular. Say about guys like andy warhol what you want but I prefer free art over "muh realistically drawn landscape" Also literature got so much better in the 20th century. Same goes for music to be honest.
