Math-rock thread? I'm looking for some lesser known gems or a list of /mu/ approved ones would help. I'm fairly new to the genre but I'm trying to avoid generic sounding ones, they bore me. Hella is based tho.

No sample :(

What's a good song by them?
>>
Joint Chiefs of Math
Don Caballero
Battles
Tera Melos
By the end of Tonight
Bygones
Sleeping People
Giraffes?Giraffes!

Map's & Atlases is probably not what you're looking for but still mathy
so is TTNG sometimes, probably also Tube Lord.

Listen to all of Zach Hills entire solo catalog

Idk

Thank you, haven't heard of any of these.

np, these are the more well known ones, Bygones is a band Zach Hill and Nick Reinhart from Tera Melos made, not as good as I thought it would be but still worth checking out, they have some great songs.

Aslo I'm sure you know but just in case TTNH = This Town Needs Guns.

If you're going to listen to Zach Hills entire catalog I'd start with Astrological Straits then FACE TAT, his album Necromancer is pretty much neo free jazz if that is even a thing.

By The End of Tonight is great instrumental Math rock but it's not as experimental as most of Zach's stuff.

Listen to everything by Joint Chiefs of Math and Don Cab. The other bands are just nice mathy stuff to add to your music catalog.

Hope you enjoy anon, hope this is helpful. :^)

You like 90s math rock with more in common with post-hardcore or you like 00s instrumental noodlecore?
>>
>>63177694
either, i like softer stuff too
>>
>>63177713
Well in that case, my favorite math rock band ever is Sweep The Leg Johnny. They have lots of heavy, more chaotic music and lots of soft, beautiful music as well.

Listened to them after they got announced for ArcTanGent festival this year, can't say I'm too intrigued by it honestly, their sound is identical to most other math rock bands.

False.

Battles definitely is not math rock. Still damn good, though.
>>
>>63182408
TTNG for math rock standards? They are pretty bad. For whatever Emo genre they are, maybe not.
I like Tricot, but they are pretty generic and uninteresting math rock.

Because they're not a "lesser known gem." Shellac is usually one of the first bands people listen to when getting into the genre, they're great but I just assume everyone already knows that.
