Why the fuck do you fags not worship at the feet of this fucking album?
>>
>>63135199
Because Helplessness Blues is better
>>
>>63135222
Yeah if you don't care about quality songwriting and prefer gimmicky shit and lyrics.
Like some kind of pleb.
>>
>>63135199
We did, 5 years ago.
>>
>>63135287
It came out in 2008 you idiot.
>>
>>63135238
It's the exact opposite, s/t is much more amateurish.
>>
>>63135332
S/T is much more focused on good melodies/atmosphere while HB is "lol let's appeal to pretentious hipsters"
>>
>>63135292
2008 was 8 years ago
>>
>>63135361
Yeah and you said 5 here >>63135287
fucking moron
>>
>>63135199
Definitely a top 10 album for me. But most people seem to prefere HB for some reason.
>>
>>63135408
cuz Lorelai is incredible
>>
>>63135199
Cuz it's shit
>>
>>63135408
Because Fantano liked it.
>>

This surprises me too, HB is maybe a little more technically/production wise/instrumentation wise "experimental" or "innovative" but FF resonates with me so much more. I've listened to self titled one million times since it came out and I never get tired of it - it grows in richness, in fact, as I notice more details each time
>>
The difference is that HB is less immediate and takes a few listens to appreciate. It's the better album imo, but I can see why people would prefer s/t
>>
>>63135486
This is exactly how I feel to. FF just clicks with me a way HB doesn't. It just has this great atmosphere.

8 years ago then, point still stands no-one gives a fuck about indie folk anymore, it's not the 2000s. Wipe yourself off.
>>
>>63135612
Point being you got BTFO kid. GB2R
>>
I like HB a bit more but s/t is on par
>>
The difference between them is that FF is much closer to "indie rock" than HB. HB doesn't have many backbeats and strays just a bit further from typical pop song structure, it also has a much "bigger" sound and more variety in mood and instrumentation.
>>
>>63135695
It also has shittier melodies/songs as a whole.
>>
>>63135647
Point still stands, no-one worships this band anymore, except your mom.
>>
>>63135714
wrong, family

no his mom just worships my cock
>>
>liking indie folk of any kind at any point whatsoever
>>
it's pretty good. it was on the /mu/core chart from ~2009-10
>>
>>63135714
if you need everything to be catchy, sure. I bet you're a huge Bon Iver fan.
>>
>>63135835
I want my songs to be well made, instead of shitty hipster bait. Bon Iver is awful.
>>
>>63135199
because wannabe folk is my least favorite form of music. nothing to be gained from listening to uninspiring shit, besides unspiration. i suppose it is good for casual listening or background noise while doing something else. but i would rather listen to nothing at all
>>

This is one of the strangest opinions I've ever heard. I've never ever had a doubt that HB is my favorite and IMO the better written album. Maybe it's a matter of me preferring it for being a more holistic piece.

I feel like Helplessness Blues is more mature, and has more themes of maturity. I think it's an amazing work of art, but in many parts its more uncomfortable and introspective than s/t. It deals with more uncomfortable themes and sounds and is incredibly ambitious in doing so. I think thematically it's more cohesive than s/t and appeals to many different emotions that s/t shies away from.

As a listener, it makes me feel more connected to the band and Robin, while s/t imposes an almost childlike wanderlust when I listen to it. I can see how the two different albums might polarize to two different people.

Both the albums are incredible and it just comes down to a matter of the personal resonance of a person. Some people will appreciate one, vice versa. Isn't that how it is with every piece of art?

The major difference between the albums for me is that Helplessness Blues is much better to listen to straight through than s/t, while s/t is easy to start from any point in the album. It's full of fantastic songs so much so that the album could be played on shuffle and I wouldn't notice much of a difference from the original track list.
