Just to say something more thread-related: their best album is Alligator, I love The National, but I think High Violet plays too safe into their formula, also some songs sound a little incomplete for some reason.

They don't feel incomplete to me, but "safe" sounds about right. Still love Terrible Love, Anyone's Ghost, Vanderlyle, etc, but yeah, Alligator and Boxer have it beat.
I always used to say Boxer was the best as a statement of fact, but only recently did I discover how much I really love Alligator. Geese of Beverly Road is so fucking gorgeous.
