It's a good place to go to when you can't find your music to buy or on on Spotify. Remember, Piracy is for thieving poorfags. Get a job or use your neetbux!
>>
>>62626107
10+ year slsk user here.

Basically don't use it if you aren't willing to share your library. You will have a lot of trouble getting anything if you don't. A lot of users on there will block you with zero warning if they browse your stuff and don't see anything shared out. There are even some who will keep you from getting their stuff if you have less than x-number of files shared even.
>>
>>62626428
obviously
what kind of prick would use slsk without sharing anything anyway
>>
>>62626473
Oh boy, lemmie tell ya, too many...

I downloaded what I thought was a rip of Painting With by Animal Collective. FloriDada was correct, the rest of the songs were replaced by songs off the album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.

So I deleted that and downloaded a different rip from a different user, and the same exact thing happened

If this experience appeals to you don't hesitate download soulseekTM right away

why use slsk when rutracker exists? and the 1% of stuff not on rutracker you can get off wcd and the 1% of stuff not on wcd you can probably find by googling blogs

>>62628445
you don't have to upload anything (which is what you get v& for)
plus 320k is more likely to be actual 320k
>>
>>62628427
this is nowhere near true

plenty of things I've wanted were not on soulseek but were on wcd
>>
I hate when people get offline right when you're at the last track
>>
>>62628748
this seems like the worst thing

also I wouldn't want slsk running the entire time, only when I'm downloading something, so I'd do it too
>>
>>62628535
At the expense of less diversity
I used rutracker

>>62628705
Have you ever used the wishlist option? Sometimes what I want is not there right now, but it usually appears after one or two days (a week the most).
Also, lots and lots of request stuff on wcd are available instantaneously on slsk. I uploaded five torrents to wcd that way in less than a day.
So, yeah, Soulseek has far more content than wcd and rutracker (and it doesn't even require a ratio).

can someone who has slsk please download and upload supersedure for me? slsk isn't compatible with my laptop and i was recently banned from what.cd... help me please
>>
>>62626107
It's a p2p network where one peer sequentially downloads files from another, generally after searching for it
As long as you're not looking for a 2 cassette print run release kept in a safe in a cave in Finland you'll be able to find almost anything given enough time, though occasionally you'll only be able to find subpar quality files
Definitely worth it as long as you're OK with dealing with autists and willing to share your library, otherwise you'll be told to fuck off
>>

>>
>>62630728
>>62629904
I share a shitton of music, but I'm sort of a hoarder. When I want the discography of a really obscure band, sometimes I find myself downloading +10 albums/eps/singles from one user at a time.

On the one hand, I feel really bad, but on the other, it feels really good to collect new music.

Sometimes, when people ban me for downloading unreasonable amounts of music, I just change my name. Heh.

Shout out to Johntest, homies, video1
I love you guys

Also, sometimes I'll download films if I can get away with it.
>>
>>62630967

>>
does it cost bandwidth to just share a folder
>>
>>62631042

I still haven't finished it, listened to the first disc I believe. I still sleep to Zone and s/t often.
>>
>>62631067
generally, it doesn't take a lot

you can limit the rate at which you upload to other users
>>
>>62626428
Damn. Just realized this must be what happened to me a few times, where the guy went offline forever...
Guess I have to share my library
>>
>>62631172
I love all their stuff but Recode is what I go back to most often, followed by Zone and Ubusana
>>
>>62631226
When you're banned, you'll usually know it.

It's really uncanny how a user can just go offline and never return for months on end.

Over a month ago, I was downloading this obscure Chinese pop record from a guy, and then he went offline and hasn't returned.

It really bugs me, because he was the only one who had that album, and even sticking the album in my wishlist hasn't found anything. I don't even know where I could buy the album.

>>
>>62631407

What album was it?
>>
I used it to decent effect for about 6 months but then AVG started being a bitch and not letting me use it. I'm boutta tell AVG to suck on em nutz and uninstall that shit. I'm slightly worried about it, not because I give a shit about windows getting fucked because I read they're going to force everybody to use windows 10 and I'm going to use ubuntu if they pull that shit. but if something so bad happens that my hdd gets corrupted with my whole library on it then that'll fuck my whole life up. So what should I do /mu/? buy an external drive and back my shit up first? just freeball it and get ridda AVG?
>>
>>62626937

>>

>So what should I do /mu/? buy an external drive and back my shit up first?
why have you not done this already. that's, like, computing 101
>>
>>62626473
I only share one album atm 'cause the rest of my shit is pleb or I "curate" discographies by deleting tracks I don't like, so it would be pretty useless for most people.
>>

Can I share more than one folder?
>>
>>62631508
tl;dr yes, you need an external drive if you have data you care about.

longer: So first of all, antivirus software is almost useless in this age. Any experienced or halfway clever malware creator can edit a small string in their code that allows for randomizing the entire malware in such a way that antivirus software can not detect it anymore. It's a cat and mouse game, with the cat being an obese sloth and the mouse being a cockroach that runs at 100mph. So with that being said, viruses themselves are easier than ever to get these days. You can even get them from just visiting a website, without the owner of the website knowing. Malware spreaders use exploit kits such as Angler to embed malicious code into almost every aspect of a website (especially ads). So, it is very easy to get a virus these days. And as for viruses themselves, a type that has recently exploded in popularity is ransomware. This software silently encrypts your entire hard drive with unbreakable encryption, sends the key to unlock all of your data their servers, and then asks you to fork over up to ~$200 to get your data back. I actually got this just in November last year. Wrecked my shit but luckily it didn't get to my mapped drives (which it usually will, which means everything connected to your computer will be infected). I had to wipe the entire drive and reinstall, sadly losing quite a few photos that have been on that drive forever.
I now have a 4TB backup drive and backup everything I care about (music, photos, videos, etc) every month. I suggest you do the same.
>>
>>62631786
>>62631508
Oh yeah, and I suggest you switch to Linux if you can. I know people meme neckbeard autism blah blah but free and open source software really is a great thing.
>>
>>62631564

>>
>>62631409

Thanks for the detailed reply. I've been pricing external drives for a minute but I've been hesitant b/c the last time I had the idea to get one the backup croaked within a month and my hdd that I was trying to backup lasted until the screen on the laptop shit the bed 3 years later, So I ended up feeling like I wasted 80 bucks on the backup. But I think they make them sturdier now. And yeah, I will probably be doing the Ubuntu thing pretty soon too.
