Vsnares is mostly great
>>
where my radiohead senpaitachi at
>>
yoooo this is my kinda thread

this guy makes some really fucking good IDM
https://soundcloud.com/detmusic/heavenly

also, what do you guys think about the "new wave" of IDM that is kinda IDM; i'm talking artists, such as Baths, Gold Panda, etc. ?
>>
>>62585248
and FlyLo as well
>>
How does one get the crazy chopped up drum sounds that guys like Venetian Snares and Autechre use
>>
>>62585488
a lot of IDM guys use trackers such as Renoise to do stuff like that
>>
>>62585691
How about within the trackers though?

Do they just manually go and fuck with the drum samples?
>>
>>62584718
has his new album leaked yet
>>
>>62585248
>>62585302
Baths, Gold Panda or Flylo aren't IDM
>>
>>62585892
well, I am not really familiar with using trackers myself, however, I have heard it is easier to do that in them. so yeah, probably
>>
>>62586140
I have no idea how to get a drum machine on my computer. I've been wanting something to make beats with

Listened to anvil off of his latest. Sounds pretty awesome

Why do people that like tech house/minimal/techno whatever the fuck the current mainstream 'underground' thing is think their taste is so much better than people who listen to 'commercial' music and EDM when their music is just as fucking stagnant and clichéd.
>>
>>62586423
is that new release he put out better than ask the dust, because that was a disappointment for me honestly
>>
>>62587146
>tech house/minimal techno
>current thing
what is this? 2004? lol
>>
>>62587161
Vessel has less vocals, more atmosphere, bit more subtle. Got more of that; travelling through a alien planet on a adventure vibe.

Check it out for yourself https://youtu.be/HBsGKq9ntXU
>>
>>62587465
No this is the United kingdom in 2016
>>
>>62587465
all the new kids are listening to "deep house -summer mix 2016" atm
>>
>>62588730
that's not what's popular in the "underground" atm tho and hasnt been since like 2007 lol
>>
made this "IDM" sketch thingy just about now

https://www.audiotool.com/track/lame_tbh/

h8, r8 and stuff
>>
>>62583617
I feel like IDM music is lacking in identity.. The only stuff I enjoy is Squarpusher and Aphex. Mostly Druqkgs and Hard Normal Daddy. Does it get better or worse from here?
>>
>>62589799
Boards of Canada makes some soft IDM, it's worth cheking out Hi Scores and Twoism albums.

Venetian Snares has some pretty hardcore stuff on Detrimentalist.
>>
>>62589455
Where do you live and what would you say is then?
>>
>>62584718
meeeh desu
>>

you belong in /bleep/ mate
>>
who else /sunkenfoal/ here?

haven't seen him mentioned ever, on /mu/ that is
>>
>>62590288
>industrial techno that's an extension of the birmingham scene
>'""outsider"""/ lo-fi deep house and techno
>berghain stye techno (pretty vague and more of a scene but w/e, you know it when you hear it)
>idk what it's being called but "future grime" or w/e
>bass music is still going pretty strong too

tech house is popular but not really in any of the clubs i got to - seems a bit more mainstream

Can we just pretend that IDM stands for industrial dance music rather than Intelligent dance music. that sounds so fucking pretentious.
>>
>>62591592
well a lot of IDM isn't industrial by any means, and also Industrial Dance Music is a separate sub-genre of its own
>>
>>62591079
Hence why I used the term mainstream underground and the content of my post.
>>
>>62591702
>Industrial Dance Music
It's EBM right?
>>
>>62585488

If youre not using a computer the answer is usually some combination of a drum machine, sequencer, delay and/or LFOs
>>
>>62591702

It's intelligent design music
>>

>>
>>62591592
I wish it could be Experimental Dance Music but that acronym would just be EDM.

I suppose you could to XDM but then it would sound like Extreme Dance Music.

>>

Put the power gap after BoC and we're there.
>>
>>62591857
>It's intelligent design music

I've heard that used, but I am pretty sure the original term IDM stood for intelligent dance music.

>>62591775
>It's EBM right?

yeah that is probably another term for it
>>
Why does no one talk about Kid606 Ever? He's as important of an IDM artist
>>
>>62585488
VSnares and Autechre m pei sure have wildly different methods. I say this because their drums have nothing in common, other than complexity, which isn't even that common for Autechre any more.
>>
>>62592366
vsnares uses renoise
autechre uses max
>>
Culprate is actually doing some really fucking neat IDM kinda stuff

https://soundcloud.com/culprate/acidrain?in=culprate/sets/deliverance
>>
>>62587465
In my experience the new fun thing in the normie underground is super technical neurofunk. Some of the songs are okay nuts, is be cool if there was an artist with that aesthetic making longer pieces that aren't so rigidly set to a club template.
>>
>>62589799
The fact that you think Aphex and Squarepusher are comparable in quality means you aren't appreciating IDM properly, and are just caught up in the gay chaotic drums. IDM is more than that, it's not just drum N bass with more clicks and beeps and since dreamy ambience.
>>
>>62592560
my nigga

culprate is the man who is taking the evolution of electronic music one step further, "pushing the envelope"

he's practically supernatural.
>>
>>62592560
This album is fucking brilliant. Would have been there best of 2014 if Syro had not have dropped.

Shame he went back to ladwubs afterwards, but even then he definitely has the best ladwubs in the land.
>>
>>62592487
>max
that's what it's called, "max usp" or something... I've been trying to remember that for the longest time...
>>
>>62592838
>>62592806
Culprate is indeed fucking amazing. He is capable of so much more than what he is putting out lately.
>>
>>62592838
>if Syro had not have dropped.
Deliveracnce actually surpasses Syro imo, yes, I'm dead serious
totally agreed on the ladwubs, although it can't compare, it's still really fucking decent
>>62592914
It sucks hard yes, but I can asure you he only does that stuff for cash, and I'm sure he's got something else cooking.
>>
>>62593375
I sure hope so. I need something new to shatter my brain.
>>
>>62593442
honestly, something that's been bugging me for quite some time is believing that anything will ever top Deliverance.

I hope it'll be one of those that doesn't quite come through to you at first listen and by the second or third listen you're totally blown away
>>
so, anyone knows when does Richard is going to drop Melodies From Mars? he said it was supposed to be dropd in february but nothing came out
