Are there any good operas that've been written recently?
>>
>>62574796
No.
>>
>>62574796

How recent are we talking? There's been a number of pretty good operas written within the last ten years or so, if that's recent enough for you.
>>
>>62576522
I was thinking even the past 30 years, so that works plenty fine.

Hello champion of the common man
>>
I got McClary's book 'Feminine Endings' out of the library to see just how bad it is and it's managed to surpass my wildest imagination.

My favourite bit so far is how she sees the film Jaws as a male fear of vagina dentata. What sort of chucklefuck takes this seriously?
>>
>>62579217

My favourite bit so far is how everyone is still pretending to like Bach.
>>
Besides Prog Rock ( or say Prog Rock i don't care), what's your favorite non-classical genre that's heavily influenced by classical music?
>>
>>62580451

Balkan manele.

They ASSAULT the listener.

They BREAK convention.

They DARE to go where no one has ever gone.

They have TITANIC vocal harmonies.

They expression of the human spirit is UNBRIDLED.

>Shit on Puccini

But why ;_;
>>
>>62581330

Because he basically did what Verdi did after Verdi had already done it better than him.

I do like Puccini a lot anyway though
>>
This is pretty much the only bit of opera I can listen to:

Oh god, I just found out they played Max Reger's requiem including the Dies Irae in my hometown in 2013. I somehow missed this.
I seriously never felt so bad about missing a musical performance.
>>
>>62576993
There are some good masses from that time period but Nixon in China is the most important opera.
>>
Bump with something SDF posted in an awful thread.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYFEFXbNeQQ
It sounds to me kinda like what would happen if Schoenberg decided to teach Gershwin.
>>
I've decided to become a countertenor, are there any good pieces I should learn? Already planning on doing Ombra Mai Fu and some of Stabat Mater by Vivaldi.
>>
>>62594162
Also to add: are there any good countertenors to listen to other than Scholl? I've heard a bit of James Bowman and I liked him a lot.
>>

I like this one. Also, Akhenaten in Phillip Glass' Akhenaten is in that voice range.

Pippo9 probably.
>>
>>62595444
I find it more stimulating than other popular music, but hardly listen to it any more. At least they try to keep it interesting and have something new happening every 10 seconds.
Jazz would be at about the same level for me, highly interesting and varied.

Feeling privileged living in London hearing this. Can't wait for this year's proms.

I'm seeing the Pelleas this friday, hope it's worth it.

I hope they're good. My town was voted the most boring in the entire state.
