One of the most disappointing releases by an appreciated artist
I don't care much for the new Kanye at all. He's rapping "Imma fucking bitches" on pretty much every track, but way MORE than before, and it bothers me most because I'm thinking of him as a married man with two children that I'd hoped to have matured past his angsty anger that I did like about Yeezus, and MBDTF, and I adore the production on 808s. This has incredible production, perhaps his best ever, but his lyricism and delivery has never been worse.
Only songs I enjoyed to some extent were "Waves", "FML", "Wolves", "No More Parties in LA" (best song by far, and it's mostlyKendrick's vocal delivery that is great imo).
Kanye's really just throughout not giving much of a hell other than sonic attributes.... that's why it took three years. Strong production, guests largely highlights, his laziest and most juvenile lyricism ever that is repetitively obnoxious. Last track gets into Cosby, he feels sorry for him comparing him to Steve Harvey forgetting names of his victims (with his usual dissensitized humor that is at its poorest).
I fucking hate Kanye but this album is just too good to ignore. I hate eating my hat like this but I can't deny that this is an exceptional piece of work.

I think a lot of the initial reception came from him adapting Autotune, something considered a nuissance and a gimmick for artists like Tpain. And with 808's he completed his 180 from soulful sample kanye the transition he started in Graduation. I'd personally put Graduation as his weakest effort. 808's doesn't really have a bad song on it at all. (not counting that pinocchio shit.)
The way whoever made the beat for Famous flipped that one sample from that reggae song is dope as hell.
