Yeah, he's actually better now than he was in the 90's, but he has constant issues with taking his meds, so it's possible he's still slipping into and out of the worst of his conditions. On top of the fact that he's a huge pot-head, he may be forgetting to take them. ( though that's such a huge reach i'd disregard that).
He also had a Syd Barrett-esque run in with LSD that set him off around the late 80's and since then he's never been as well of as before, in school he was in the tops of his classes
