This happens a lot to me. Or when I do get introduced to people they say something like "Hey I've seen you around a lot" and that's when I lie and say the same. I'm not sure if I am memorable (I'm 6'4 and pretty good looking) or if I just have a terrible memory for faces.
Most of the things I go to don't really have promoters per se, it's just the two or three people running the event and they are overwhelmingly male. It is always great to meet those people though as they are always so passionate about what they are doing, it's really inspiring desu.
