idk, features look nice, find some YouTube videos. Or just go try it out, if it's used the guy should let you try before you buy. Don't feel too pressured to buy just cuz you try it. But really online demos aren't horrible for deciding if you like an amp.
>>
>>62404279
Hey man what can I say, this thing's incredible
I was also being half serious, if there's an amp that sounds just as good or better for cheaper someone please let me know
>>
full disclosure, i know next to nothing about guitars, but i want to buy one soon. i've narrowed my search down to either the squier bullet or fender starcaster, out of all the cheap guitars i've looked at online i like the sound of these ones the most. which one should i choose? does it really matter? most of the music i would probably be playing fits under the category of "punk". i would like to eventually play some thick, droney psych sounding stuff, too
>>
>>62404307
I gave you some recommendations here
>>62404139

>>62404434
how much are you willing to spend? do you care if it's used or new?
>>
>>62404461
i'm looking at under $200 for a guitar + amp, but a cheap practice amp will suffice. i've pretty much exclusively been looking at used gear due to my budget
>>
>>62404434
>squier bullet or fender starcaster

if you're looking at those then you can't afford a guitar

save up for a few more months then ask again, otherwise you're buying plywood shit
>>
>>62404461
oh, i didn't saw that, sorry
i'll check that out too, even if it's over my budget
>>
>>62404434
My first was a Yamaha Pacifica. Great starter guitar, and a solid guitar in general especially for the price.
>>
>>62404508
i could easily blow $500 on this right now if i wanted to, but i don't think it's a worthwhile investment for an instrument that i have no experience playing. i would like nice equipment, but i want to learn how to actually play before i dive into that
>>
good left handed acoustic guitars under 300 dollars? I primarily use jaguars and jazzmasters if that somehow helps.
>>
>>62404507
for a budget so low I recommend an sx furrian. As far as an amp goes anything can work for punk, so just go with what sounds good to you. Tele bridge pickups are great for punk.
>>
>>62404551
here's the thing though, a shit instrument will discourage you from learning to play AND it will retain zero value

the cheapest you should go for is a squier VM or something
>>
I have LP, Flying V,Strat and a bunch of Ibanez. Marshall stack and Vox combos, all mostly 80-90's pieces. Shitload of pedals and rack gear. Good quality, real heavy metal shit.

Been learning swing and bebop lately and really want a nice Gretsch jazzbox with Fender Deluxe Reverb.
>>
>>62404551
$200 on a guitar and amp is $200 utterly wasted. You'll end up with a piece of shit that plays so badly you won't want to learn.

Your money, your choice. "Investing" $200 on a guitar and amp is losing you $200. Enjoy your plywood.
>>
>>62404551
I don't believe in spending a lot on your first instrument. The main reason is that you don't want to feel guilty about not practicing or pressured about your playing. It's better to think about it as something you are doing for fun. Nothing will make you quit more than guilt. Sure, a cheap guitar is a worse long term investment. But there's no point in a long term investment if you end up quiting.

I just had a good idea for a guitar: adjustable pickup height by thumb wheel. I've found myself changing pickup height for different recordings before. I can't imagine a way to do this without some machining though. So I guess I won't be able to /diy/ a prototype.

I think that >>62406137 is right, but more so its extra cost that not a lot of people are gonna be willing to pay bc they dont really need the extra convenience. Almost every guitarist i know just adjusts them with an initial setup and hardly ever afterwards

>you mean the guitarist constantly saying "this spot here is perfect for a shred solo"
When I started to be able to play fast I wanted to put solos everywhere "lmaooo so fast sweeps shreds look at me!!". Nowadays I think that's fucking boring and I concentrate more on the actual songwriting and coming up with cool and interesting riffs. When I feel it calls for a solo I'll usually do something more melodic instead of just FAST FAST FAST. I mean shred has it's place but I only do it in quick bursts now and don't base my entire solos around it.
>>
>>62406077
Any m7 chord. Preferably with the root on the A string though.
>>
>>62406077
I've been digging in m7b5 chords lately. They resolve so nicely to the maj7 chord, and I've found that playing minor pentatonic licks using the b5 as the root under the chord sounds cool and jazzy.

I feel like if I had the option I would use it more. Obviously a niche thing, but I think part of the reason for guitarists setting the pickup height once and never changing it is that it is a pain. You have to redo the tilt if you're not careful too. It is a lot of effort for a minor feature though. I just feel like pickup height is an underappreciated part of tone. Guys with a bunch of strats obviously can specialize pickup height on each, but for people with just one or two guitars I don't think there's any one sweet spot for the pickups. Still, you guys are right that the work isn't really worth the result. This would be cool to see on a higher end guitar though.

IDK, I've seen people with pickups that contact the strings if you play too hard "because the action's low." I would want a single thumbwheel to raise the whole pickup ideally, which is why I say it would be complicated. I guess thumb screws with some line to aid rotating by the same amount would be better if I actually wanted to do this, though the thumbwheel in most cases would cover the pole pieces to have room, so I'd definitely want it to be plastic, or plastic capped somehow. I'm actually getting interested in pursuing this, might try it with my p90 soapbar as a prototype.

idk, maybe we should just have a musician general, it's not like other instruments have a big enough population for their own thread. We could really use some resident drummers.
But as far as a keyboard goes anything on craigslist that's touch sensitive and has midi support is good. The cheaper the better. foot pedal support is nice too.

Guys i need help
I was just restringing my old man mans bass, which is like 30something years old

Now the problem is - the nut popped off
Do i have to glue it back together, or will the string pressure hold it in place
Im kinda scared that the neck will wrap due to no strings, and its 11 so i cant go out and get some wood glue

So I found this weird looking metallic bass guitar (since it has 4 strings) from my granpa's attic. I think I want to respray it since it's a bit worn. Would matte black do any justice to it? Also it has some sloppy painting in the back of it. Also the neck feels horrid so I think it needs an upgrade, there were some guitar necks on eBay that I might consider. It feels good to fix junk things I find.

Today I learned that the tone knob can indeed be a nice thing to have, and that impulse-buying a Phase 90 might not have been such a great idea.

Took a pic including the Jackson now... my phone camera really is potato quality.
>>
whats the difference with a fender squire and a squire?
>>
>>62411045
This is honestly a good question.

Increasing the speaker cone area increases the sound pressure level since the extra mass is physically moving more air. You will notice this in the room since the sound has better coverage and "feels bigger."

I believe more speakers, while always louder for our purposes, should be quieter than one speaker when your ear is directly next to the cone. This would be a negligible increase in volume but hey you asked. The idea being that all of the amplifier's power would be used by one speaker rather than divided.
>>
Hey fellas,

What's a good and cheap acoustic guitar for beginners?
>>
>>62411474
Yamaha and Landola are some decent brands.
>>
>>62411218
yeah, I use forward slash to lump ideas together. I can definitely see the problem doing that in a psuedo science equation.
>>
>>62411511
Also I use a $150 Fender CD60 and I love that thing to grave. It's nice too.
Check some demos and read some reviews and figure out what tone gets your attention. Because that's actually the only thing that matters is that it's playable and that you like it.

I have an Epiphone goth LP

It's pretty good, awesome for playing metal and distorted stuff. It has a deep dark tone. Sucks for pretty much any other kind of music...

Had it for almost 10 years I guess.. Everything still works fine..

It's kinda sensitive though... You can't really play it hard because it starts to sound all weird. It's hard to explain.. I have an old fender and you can beat that thing up, hit the strings as hard as you can, and it sounds fine, and stays in tune... But if you're too rough with the LP, it doesn't like it.
