If you must know, what attracted me to it wasn't the hype. In fact, that initially turned me off, and initial listens to Eccojams made me disgusted with the genre.
But then, new forms of vaporwave came along with a sound and aesthetic that mimicked my lifelong dreamscapes, and I fell in love.
So, no, I won't give the genre up. It lets me enter my dream wonderland while I'm awake, and that makes it infinitely more precious than any other genre in existence.
