I really liked how he worked with soul influences. Young Americans is underrated as fuck.

Earthling is another super underrated album. His best of the 90s for sure definitely in my top 10. Glad to see it becoming the contrarians album of choice.

Always found Low to be inferior to Heroes. Preferred the more fleshed out, darker side 1 of Heroes and the fact that the ambient side is a bit better on Low doesn't make up for it. Also there's nothing on Low that reaches the heights of Heroes. Maybe if I were someone who really takes the concept of albums working better as a whole than a collection of songs I would prefer Low.

Ziggy is great but the production gets on my nerves and I've burned it out.

Hunky Dory is in my top 5.

>"Heroes"
Most consistent songwriting, most idiosyncratic vocal performances and a great improvisatory nature both in Robert Fripp's excellent guitar playing and Bowie's abstract yet evocative lyricism which gives the songs a sense of constant progression that isn't found in most of his other albums. One of my favourite albums of all time.

>Low
The ultimate feels album. I love the way the first half consists of upbeat, catchy instrumentals juxtaposed with dark, melancholy lyrics whereas the second half consists of dark, melancholy instrumentals with either meaningless lyrics or no lyrics at all. It's like the album is gradually sucking you into it's own depressive world in such a way that you barely even notice it.

>Aladdin Sane
Basically the same aesthetic as Ziggy Stardust minus the cheesy concept and with a better backing band that makes the songs sound so much stronger and more interesting. I also love the forays into more esoteric styles like avant-garde jazz and Brechtian cabaret.

Black Tie White Noise is a weird album for me. It's missing Real Cool World and Lucy Can't Dance, which were two interesting songs from this time period which fell off the radar and it's got two bad covers (Don't Let Me Down & Down & I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday) on it. The album would have been a solid second-tier Bowie album if they were swapped.

As for the Wedding songs, they're inoffensive and sound fine. I don't think they hurt the album by being on, but the best instrumental is Looking for Lester.

I agree with Heroes being superior to Low. I love both but I like the energy and dance-able weirdness of the pop songs on Heroes and I actually like a lot of the ambient pieces like V2 Schneider better. Bowie's delivery with the frantic yelling on songs like Joe The Lion puts it over the top for me.

Also Robert Fripp fucking kills it on guitar.
