I love Mor. I also love Mob Rules, Headless Cross and Cross Purposes. But neither is as great. MoRs biggest failure is that, acoustic interludes aside, it's a very one-note album.

Not really, it's all mid-paced Hard Rock and Heavy Metal that was Sabbath trademark. Their debut had folky bits, a stronger late 60s hard rock influence, and a lot more blues influences.
Paranoid had, again, a really bluesy track, a really psychedelic track and Hand of Doom, the most 60s track they ever recorded.
MoR is just Heavy Metal, it's them consolidating that sound they had been edging on the last few albums. But that's all that is, you can hear the blues but it hasn't blues songwriting like Black Sabbath or War Pigs, there's no wacky folk or psychedelia, and the 60s influences haven been superseded and dwarfed by their heaviness.

Nope. Gimmicks are just that, gimmicks. War Pigs is an 8 minute long song for example but has so few riffs there's really not a lot of variation in songwriting there. It's also especially bad on the title track which is just three riffs. Planet Caravan repeats the same thing over and over and over again until the solo shows up then only the guitar does something different with some piano coming in; again little variety in songwriting. Iron Man splits like 3 riffs for most of the song till the end part which is admittedly good; not much variation for something that's six minutes long similar to War Pigs. Electric Funeral is my favorite being the most like Master Of Reality style straight up riff attack though still not as varied as songs on MoR. Hand Of Doom practically repeats one riff for two whole minutes, then switches between two different riffs till a solo then segues into the original riff; cool stuff happens but not enough for the song to warrant being 7 minutes long.
Paranoid's not a bad album, it just lacks variety in riffs and songwriting as a result.

It's not like they have not done songs in different styles and not made it good (NIB for example is mad psychedelic and barely metal but still has good songwriting to go around.)
