Sy used to be great before he went full Happy Hardcore. To be honest all of them (Force & Styles, DJ Seduction, Luna-C, Slipmatt, Billy Bunter etc) were much better before they went full HHC.
Spent most of today listening to One In The Jungle sets and not so much hardcore stuff. Favourites are the Ed Rush & Trace set (obviously) and the Dom & Roland set (also obviously). The Rob Playford and Omni Trio one was also nice.

Are you saying that Happy Hardcore only lasted a year, or that Breakbeat Hardcore turned into Happy Hardcore really quickly? My guess would be the influence from Europe with more emphasis on hardcore and less on breakbeats somehow came in and caught on which lead to HHC, which itself slowed turned into UK Hardcore which for some reason still has a tremendous following despite being mostly boring and inferior to HHC in every way.
This is one of my favourite HHC tracks, and DJ K did a nice remix of it for his Bangface set.

I don't think we'll get anything like HHC since the niche it filled in is still occupied by UK Hardcore which doesn't seem be dying anytime soon if Hardcore Underground is anything to go by. It might be unfamiliarity but apart from Fracus & Darwin and DJ Shimamura there's not much UK Hardcore I like.
Also I need to download that The Scratchmaster's Obsession mix, it was great.

And UK Hardcore doesn't really seem to have its own sound and instead copies whatever is currently popular - when I listened to UK Hardcore there was a big dubstep influence. The "best" thing to come out of HHC was probably Trancecore/Freeform, but only if I'm in the mood for that

Eh, the Dutch are alright sometimes. But it probably was their kind of hardcore which lead to Breakbeat Hardcore changing. Anyway it had a run from 91-95 at the best.
For me UK Hardcore is basically like HHC but slower, far less breakbeats and more euphoric girl samples.
