Can you actually make anything worthwhile in FL Studio?

The synths sound way too computerized and digital to be good so it always sounds like some garageband amateur shit, the piano roll/sequencing is ass and it seems like its only meant for generic trap/EDM. How do the other big DAWs compare?
>>
Yes you can, you can make good music on basically any DAW.

Real men use pen & paper.
>>
>>61966100
Maybe you should start being more creative.I really cant see what other daws can do that fl cant.
>>
>seems like its only meant for generic trap/EDM.
I bet you can't even make generic trap/edm
>>
Theres nothing wrong with the DAW (though I prefer ableton live 9). If its not sounding the way you want it to, its an operator error

I made this using FL. It may not be your style but it should show it's capabilities. Get some vsts and it'll expand your sound immensely. Hardly generic trap or edm sound here.

i've been using this program for like 5 years. it's very powerful but a lot of things about it are ass-backwards

i use it to make progressive ambient and some EDM stuff, i can post clyps if anyone wants to hear some of the quality you can squeeze out of it

So its more VSTs than the DAW? I dont even use a midi or anything just the default synths so that might be it. The default synths are so fucking awful though.
>>
>>61966314
>So its more VSTs than the DAW?
basically, yeah
>>
>>61966314
Like i said its all about creativity. You can make great stuff out of cheap sounding synths but you even have tons off efects and you can master it to sound better etc.So its all about you.
>>
>>61966314
Yeah. Just download some plugins like Sylenth/Omnisphere/etc. on TPB and a few vengeance packs and you're on your way.

Even with the defaults the Sytrus and Harmor are capable of sounding good with a few adjustments. Figure out the effects in the mixer as well, those are what help get the sound you want.

Free VSTs and VSTIs have a lot of charm and there are a bunch out there that are excellent for free software. See: OBXD, Cheapotone, famisynth, U-No, and GlueReeds

No DAW has proper support for xenharmonic composition. Their piano rolls are limited to 12-EDO or less. It is so bad that people are resorting to composing in EXCEL.
>>
>blaming the DAW on the pre-installed VST's
fucking idiot
>>
>>61966420
boo fucking hoo
>>
Assuming you have the default FlStudio VSTS, you need to master Sytrus, Harmless, and Harmor and learn how to create your synths with attack, sustain, release, etc. After that, you have a lot more creative freedom with the program.

It comes to no surprise that not one Pulitzer prize winner used a DAW to compose their chef d'Ĺ“uvre.
>>
>>61966707
1) DAWs are not made for your autist intonation fetishes

2) I would hope that no pulitzer prize winner needed a DAW to conceive their work
>>
>>61966420
this image made me laugh
>>
>>61966314
The default synths are very barebones so it requires a bit of work. If your just getting started and you want some good sounds to start with, get nexus and some vengence packs.
>>
>>61966100
U wot m8? You can make anything you want in any DAW. Load in your own samples and VSTs. When picking a DAW it's more about your preference for the interface, they all have more or less the same basic functionality.

FL is the literally the best DAW (producer version). Most of the signed producers like Pro Tools, i'll Ableton one day, got the installer. I'll use
>>
>>61968491
yes, you can do this also. there are xenharmonic VSTi's that will treat the piano roll differently (one octave over 24 notes). You could also use pitch bending for any other instrument, arduous but I don't know why you would expect microtonal scales to be part of the basic functionality of the software.
>>61968527
I use both FL Studio and Pro Tools. I prefer mixing in Pro Tools and it's better for working with recorded audio. I use FL Studio for sequencing.
>>
>>61968650
>there are xenharmonic VSTi's
That ties you to specific VSTis.
It's a lame crutch, not a solution.

Besides I take offense to using the term VST as a generic for plugins.
>>
>>61968685
As I said, you can figure out ways to do it with any plugin, which will be arduous but not impossible. Therefore it still stands that you can make anything you want, even if it will be time consuming.

Actually off the top of my head, you could get a 24 note scale on most plugins by running two instances, with one fine tuned up half a semitone. That wouldn't really be that much hassle.
>>
>>61966314
Depending on how good of a producer you are, you can do a lot with only the default synths, even more with a few effects vst's
>>
>>61968800
I know Madeon has made a lot of his patches with Harmor
>>
All DAWs are the same basically, just with different placing for the stuff. I personally prefer Reaper, but I also like FL and Live

check it, 24 note microtonal scale in sytrus, easy https://clyp.it/hn4fzqir

lol retard 99% of every rap song youve heard from like 2003 onward was made on FL Studio.

Rap is hardly music

Reason has still got to be in double digits because at this point it's a "secret weapon" which is fucking hilarious.
>>
Just watch a tutorial or two and you'll get it. You can try figuring out what everything does by yourself with no guidance but it'll be confusing and won't sound as good. I used to do this before taking the plunge and actually reading/learning how to use the program and I went from making shitty loops to decent songs.

Made with fl:
https://soundcloud.com/seabass-467787503/what-dyou-call-yourself-artefatto-pt2

It's great for sampled hip hop.
But i now use bitwig and I like it a lot more.
>>
>>61970664
at the beginning i was ready to call it shit but it gets pretty groovy desu
>>
no OP the only way to make real music is using your own DAW that you built yourself in Maxmsp.

Don't even try plugging that shit into ableton that doesn't count.
>>
I made this stuff with FL and massive.
Opinions?
