what are you talking about? were you alive when Soulja Boy came out? his brand of hip hop was really polarizing in the rap community, and he was seen as the pinnacle of a dark period in rap history.
as for the critical reappraisal, it's been slow and we haven't gotten quite enough time for it to totally pick up, but Pitchfork released a whole article about how he might be the most influential mainstream musician of the 2000s.
