What kind of bait is this?
>>
>>61893762
But Bowie was QT.
>>
>>61893762
the berlin trilogy wouldn't exist without bowie either. it was a mutually created masterpiece

i feel that eno is best when helping others, he brings out the best in artists. hes an aid to creating great music. bowie is more of an independent innovator for his own music (apart from the berlin trilogy ofc).

it depends what you think is more of an achievement, helping others make great art or helping yourself make great art

it's not bait, Eno is just better in everyway

>>61893834
Ok, I'll give you that, BUT, Eno is qt in a weird way
>>
>>61893762
bowie was good at making underground shit mainstream
>>
>>61893762
>helped Lou Reed somebody
AHAHAHAHA not true by the way
:)
>>
Bowie made better music, besides he had a career in other fields so no competition really. Eno is great but he doesn't have a Station to Station or a Ziggy
>>
>>61893977
technically he has a low and a heroes, which are just as good
>>
>>61893762

>Bowie
Essentially created glam rock.

Broke down sexual and social barriers.

Worked in multiple genres, creating fusions like blue eyed soul and bringing electronica into the mainstream.

Arguably created new-wave.

Made Lou Reed someone memorable.

Made Iggy Pop's career.

Actor of stage and screen.

Invented Mortgage backed securities.

Released the first downloadable song.

Graduated from Meme school in 2002.

>Eno
Was a part of a band that played a part in creating the glam scene

Pioneered experimental electronica

Has released 3 or 4 good albums compared to bowie's 14.

Is the king of faux avant garde tryhards who fancy themselves deep individuals.
>>
>>61894004

>Low

He provided the synthesizers and had a writing credit on Warsawa

>Heroes

He used his card trick method to give bowie ideas during production.
>>
>>61894011
>Broke down sexual and social barriers
how is contributing to degeneracy at all a positive thing
>>
>>61893935
Lou worked with Bowie on Transformer, the album that got him into the mainstream

not to mention Bowie played Velvet Underground songs in concert a lot
>>
>>61894050

Are we being raided?
>>
>>61894040
>provided the synthesizers
so you mean he produced most of the sounds in that album?
he made warszawa and subteranneans the incredible songs they are

whenever eno collaborates with artists, he brings the best out of them, bowie could not create the berlin trilogy without him.
>>
>>61894110
eno alone wouldn't create warszawa, subterranean either. What is your point?
>>
>>61894004

Actually his collaboration in those albums is overrated by his fanboys (not by him tho). Like I said, I respect him as an artist but Bowie is vastly superior in every posible way and saying otherwise is to meme poorly
>>
>>61894050
go back to r9k boy
>>
>>61894137
im saying credit to the berlin trilogy should be 50/50
>>
>>61894011

>Essentially created glam rock.
Literally worst genre ever. Nobody cares Lmao
>Broke down sexual and social barriers.
No true. Jagger do it first!
>Worked in multiple genres, creating fusions like blue eyed soul and bringing electronica into the mainstream.
>electronica
that was Roxy music and/or Kraftwerk
>Arguably created new-wave.
Who is Blondie, Devo, Talking Heads...?
>Made Lou Reed someone memorable.
Use the ideas that already used on Iggys albums... More like memerable. Transformers is not his best album.
>Made Iggy Pop's career.
boring shit
>Actor of stage and screen.
boring in stage, not memorable at all. Worst actor ever if you ask me
>Invented Mortgage backed securities.
who cares
>Released the first downloadable song.
hmm ok
>Graduated from Meme school in 2002.
ok

>>Eno
>Was a part of a band that played a part in creating the glam scene
le bald girly dude xD
>Pioneered experimental electronica
>boring ambient shit
>good
pick one
>Has released 3 or 4 good albums compared to bowie's 14.
not a single good album if you ask me
>Is the king of faux avant garde tryhards who fancy themselves deep individuals.
ok

Both artist sucks!
>>
>>61894068
You didn't answered his question.
>>
>>61894209

I'm tired of these trendy bowie death appreciation/hate threads. They are not about music. Why
>>
>>61894110
Too bad the best of Coldplay is still shit. At least Bowie had the decency to not touch that.
>>
Eno was a better producer and probably more original but Bowie was a far better songwriter
Also Bowie's voice doesn't make me want to jam nails into my ears
>>
When talking just about their music:

Bowie for masterful songwriting/composing

Eno for innovation

As simple as that. Hell I think other artists have done better than Eno using the means/tech Eno gave them (Bowie being one of those artists.)
>>
>>61894717
Music is objective. People's opinion of the artist is not.
>>
>>61894685
lol
>>
>>61894728
>>61894732
Eno wasn't innovative. His ambient stuff is a rip off of Satie and Popol Vuh and his glam stuff is just le wacky pop music that tries to sound like Slapp Happy but not as interesting
>>
>>61894787
I respect that, i'm tired of the bowie shitposting just because he's dead. Especially these edgy hate threads.

>>
>>61894971
he was the sole reason new wave appeared as a musical genre

it started with catchy riffs on trout mask replica and continued with ice cream for crow, updated for the 80s sound (thought the new-wavy tracks were recorded around tmr sessions)
>>
>>61895006
lol
>>
>>61895026
who said that you melon?

television was new wave
men down under was new wave
talking heads was new wave
captain beefheart was proto-new wave
>>
Well, Eno could never write a song like Hang On to Yourself, but, on the other hand, Bowie could never write a song like 3rd Uncle.

David Bowie turned marketing into the essence of his art. All great phenomena of popular music, from Elvis Presley to the Beatles, had been, first and foremost, marketing phenomena (just like Coca Cola and Barbie before them); however, Bowie turned that into an art of its own. With Bowie the science of marketing becomes art; art and marketing become one. There were intellectuals who had proclaimed this theory in rebellious terms. Bowie was, in many ways, the heir, no matter how perverted, of Andy Warhol's pop art and of the underground culture of the 1960s. He adopted some of the most blaspheme issues and turned them upside down to make them precisely what they had been designed to fight: a commodity.
Bowie was a protagonist of his times, although a poor musician: to say that Bowie is a musician is like saying that Nero was a harp player (a fact that is technically true, but misleading). Bowie embodies the quintessence of artificial art, raises futulity to paradigm, focuses on the phenomenon rather than the content, makes irrelevant the relevant, and, thus, is the epitome of everything that went wrong with rock music.

Reading the chronicles of his times, it is clear that what caused sensation was the show, not the music. The show that Bowie set up was undoubtedly in sync with the avantgarde, as it fused theater, mime, cinema, visual art, literature and music. However, Bowie merely recycled what had been going on for years in the British underground, in particular what had been popularized by the psychedelic bands of 1967. And he turned it into a commodity: whichever way you look at his oeuvre, this is the real merit of it.
>>
Accused by some of being a fickle changeling, a trend-follower and parasite on the originality of others, this was to misunderstand his genius, which was to catch the invisible tail of what was in the air, the dialectical motions of the pop times, and, craftsman that he ultimately was, convert it into a tangible pop narrative, a public psychodrama which mirrored the drug-addled volatility and uncontrollable momentum of his private/public life as the pop superstar of the 1970s.
>>
>>61893762

>>
>>61896080
I know that but that's like blaming Werner herzog for making stozek the last film he watched, he was going to kill himself regardless of the album
>>
>>61894280
Berlin Trilogy was atleast 50% Bowie, 40% Eno, and the majority of the guitar and a little production was done by Robert Fripp
(praise be to Fripp)
>>
ian curtis liked warszawa

eno killed ian curtis
>>
>>61893762
Bowie = Eno
They are both legends and fucking best friends damn.
>>
>>61893762
This is not wrong and therefore I don't need to prove anything. Eno's work has been much more substantial and meaningful than Bowie's. However, Bowie has the popular appeal and is on the forefront and in the public's eye where as Eno is not nearly as much.
>>
>>61896100
He was a-memein
