Face it, this shit was doomed from the start.

kraftwerk is just as bad as the shit of today
>>
electronic music outgrew itself. it began as music made under extreme limitations (no midi, DAWs, samplers, digital synths, etc.) but categorized as a technologically progressive genre of music, so now you're just hearing the results of essentially a complete lack of limitations (90s computer technological growth birthed the DAW and all of its associated hardware/software that make the majority of EDM today in the box).
>>
>>61858846
90s DAWs were just midi sequencers
>>
>>61858864
They were often trackers which are a different thing
>>
>>61858898
even worse. i was thinking of early cubase and whatnot.
>>
>>61858909
Trackers aren't bad, lots of great electronic musicians have used them at some point of their career. They're sometimes all you can use if you use older hardware. Demoscene still seems to dig them, but they are nerds.

kraftwerk is shit
edm has gotten better in last few years and all your nostalgy turd EP´s should be burned. you´re being a faggot for hipster points not a genuine fan of the genre. oh and here´s a reminder take your pills before whining about EDM coz its too mainstream 4u (^:
>>
>>61858933
>Demoscene still seems to dig
i think this is on principal as its what the old demo guys used.
>>
>>61858864
what i was trying to convery was that the exponential growth of computer hardware and software in the 90s gave birth to the (then) powerful DAWs of the late 90s early 00s, which continued to grow exponentially and is the primary conduit of today's EDM.

i myself pretty much only listen to 70s and 80s electronic music, and as a trained pianist, i prefer electronic music that is largely performed live with actual instruments (like YMO).
>>
>>61859024
YMO is pretty great but electronic music was pre program and then switch, even if on hardware, definitely in full swing in the mid 80s ala early techno
>>
>>61859046
well i'm talking about electronic music in general, not just techno, which is why YMO is my definition of electronic music for that period (78-83), hell raymond scott was basically making electronic music in the 40s.

How did we get from Stockhausen to the mass produced EDM shit like Kraftwerk today?
>>
>>61859328
I was going to post this
>>61858846
I don't think DAWs were big until the 00s
>>
There is no Kraftwerk after Man Machine. Just four shmucks from Deuseldorf trying to keep disco alive. Nothing more, nothing less. We should've seen the writing on the wall with Trans Europe Express. (Even though that was a good album)
>>
>>61857716
Look harder. You will see some great electronic artists like: Ladytron, LCD Soundsystem, John Maus, The Knife, Goldfrapp, Jon Hopkins, Daniel Avery, Burial, M83, Grimes, Cut Copy, Royksopp, Susanne Sundfor, Julia Holter, The Field, etc.
>>
>>61860224
you didn't list any great electronic artists though lol
>>
>>61860321
Post your list then if you don't consider these artists to be great
>>
>>61860352
Jeff Mills
Oneohtrix Point Never
Robert Hood
Stockhausen
Juan Atkins
Twista
Erasure
Ron Morelli

These are just the top tier classics
>>
>>61860417
You mixed old and new artists dude. I posted only quite recent artists. Looking at your list, I have a feeling that you didn't even listen to the artists from my list.

If the game's like that, I will add also:
Tangerine Dream
Depeche Mode
New Order
Shpongle
Underworld
Orbital
FSOL
The Orb
The Chemical Brothers
Yellow Magic Orchestra
Vangelis
Jean Michel Jarre
OMD
The Human League
Speedy J
Autechre
Boards of Canada
Aphex Twin
Cabaret Voltaire
Yazoo
Massive Attack
Portishead
Front 242
Leftfield
808 State
Telefon Tel Aviv
Ellen Allien
Cybotron
Moderat
The Prodigy
Bjork
Moby
Goldie
The KLF

My list > your list.
>>
How did we get from Edgard Varèse to the mass produced Musique Concrète shit like Stockhausen today?
>>
Stockhausen is very overrated. Conceptually interesting, but the actual "music" = unlistenable junk. I'd rather listen to Silver Apples on repeat all day long than one hour of Stockhausen.
>>
>>61860224
>>61860537
where's j dilla? madlib?
dean blunt??????
arca??????????
james ferraroo??????????
holly herndon???????
>>
Kanye > Kraftwerk > Stockhausen
>>
>>61860605
I don't like them except J Dilla and Madlib (but I consider them hip-hop). There are many others missing like DJ Shadow and Air. The list if FAR from complete.
>>
>>61860623
hip hop is electronic music.....
>>
>>61860623
* is
>>
>>61860605
Art pop is shiiiiiiiiiiiit
Nah not really, but I forgot about that
>>
>>61860623
>but I consider them hip-hop

Which is electronically produced music so why wouldn't you include it?
>>
>>61860618
Kraftwerk > Kanye > Stockhausen
>>
>>61860637
I know that but hip-hop is a huge genre on its own.
>>
>>61860651
So is techno, your point?
>>
>>61860661
Not really. Techno, house, trance, synthpop, etc have more in common with each other than with hip-hop. They're also kinda more futuristic than the urban hip-hop. I always viewed hip-hop as a separate genre.
>>
>>61857716
anyway edm is just an umbrella term for big room house and festivals in america. it's just a money making scheme. just browse /bleep/ plenty of great dance tunes being posted everyday. edm is popular because its so easy to get laid at festivals because everybody is on molly. the music is just background noise. its just the new thing for people to do to past time before they finish college and work 80hrs a week or sometimes vice versa for those up tight people who wanna be "fun"

>>
>>61860695
>have more in common
irrelevant

>kinda more futuristic than the urban hip-hop
irrelevant

I always viewed techno as a separate genre.

They're both still electronic music though.
>>
>>61860710
Look, I didn't invent these categories / tags / whatever. Show me where do you see hip-hop here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_electronic_music_genres

>inb4 wikipedia is unreliable
>>
>>61860733
trap/drill is on that list
stop shooting yourself in the foot,. it's obvious you don't know much about music.
>>
>>61860747
>stop shooting yourself in the foot
That's a very good advice for you. Trap/drill are part of electronic music, like it or not. You don't know even 1/8 from what I know about electronic music.
>>
>>61860764
which origins come from hip hop. just stop it now you're embrassing yourself
here's a guide for you http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/
>>
>>61860784
I know that guide. Really, you're embarassing and you're saying nothing new to me. Educate yourself.
>>
>>61860710
Check also RYM: https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Electronic/

Where do you see hip-hop on that list near the Top Releases?
>>
>>61860807
embarrassing
>>
>>61860710
See also Allmusic (the list is on the bottom of the page): http://www.allmusic.com/genre/electronic-ma0000002572

Any trace of hip-hop? Or you know better than them?
>>
>>61860848
At least you're good as an autocorrect function
>>
>>61860537

Are you saying hip hop isn't produced electronically with electronic instruments?
>>
>>61860870
go 2 bed autist
>>
>>61860875
I would add also Front Line Assembly, Covenant, VMV Nation, Skinny Puppy, Assemblage 23, mind.in.a.box, Apoptygma Berzerk, etc.
>>
because now any nerd with a computer and any semblence of how music works can make this kind of stuff easily so it's flooded with amateur shit
>>
>>61860593
I find "Gesang der Jünglinge" pretty good though I generally hate this kind of music.
>>
>>61860877
You first

>>61860879
It is, but it's considered a separate genre. The seeling point is the rapping. As I said, I didn't invent these categories.
>>
>>
I can't wait until EDM overtakes hip hop in America.
>>
>>61860572
Underrated post.
Thanks m8, you made my morning, i'm going out of bed.
>>
>>61859024
>>61859046

YMO mostly used a Roland MC8/MC4 for alot of their stuff. The parts would be written by hand, but definitely the first two albums were 90% played by the sequencers.
>>
>>61860879
Rock is electronic music because it uses an electric guitar by that logic
>>
>>61861345

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_guitar
>>
>>61861384
Thanks for proving my point
>>
>>61861426
>An electronic musical instrument is a musical instrument that produces sound using electronics.

>An electric guitar is a guitar that uses a pickup to convert the vibration of its strings into electrical impulses.

Not the same thing.
