Thoughts on this piece of shit?

Starstream 1, a modeling guitar from Vox. http://www.voxamps.com/StarstreamType1

It's both ugly AND sounds bad.

>>61844955
Holy shit that distortion, everything goes muddy as fuck when he plays more than one string. How can they fuck the sound up that bad?
>>
Just picked up a Roland JC-120 this weekend, but it has a few issues, biggest one being that channel 1 of the amp does not seem to work at all. Might there be any easy solutions for this? I'm also having trouble dating it. SN is
416474 which I think dates it to 1984? I'd also appreciate if anyone could help me with that.

>>61844853
I dislike most acoustic guitars but these are mostly okay I've played a few and they were all pretty nice

Set up a basic recording rig over the weekend, just an SM57 through a Focusrite 2i2 interface. Sounds pretty damn good, even with no mixing / mastering, just raw tracks.

Someone tried to convince me that this atrocity would be better than the Variax. Not that the Variax is some transcendental, revolutionary thing, but at least it doesn't sound like utter trash. Also can the Starstream even do alternate tunings like the Variax can?

could you demo the sounds you get off that tele?
>>
>>61845853
It depends on where you're at. If you're in a small town where kids have nothing to do and there's no scene, then make the shows happen. Book somewhere willing to host, book a decent band that will fly by on tour, and plug the show to everyone.

If your city has a happening scene already, just land an opening spot on some show. Most scenes will have regulars who are probably in bands that play all the time. To keep a scene alive they need to bring in new bands (who will bring new people along). Plus you normally don't want your band to go stale opening every week. i

Expect your strings to break, your cables to not work or to pick up more radio than guitar. So be prepared to swap. Expect to not be able to hear whichever member of the band you normally guide off of or yourself. If there's a soundguy, he'll mostly likely just want to screw everything up. Your shows can be a blast or straight up kick your dick in the dirt. If you believe in what you're playing it won't matter either way. Trial by fire is the best way to find out if you really do.

>Back in the USA, in an effort to rediscover what had made Fender's reputation, the company went to vintage dealers and took measurements from pre-CBS production instruments. They even spent $5600 on buying a '57 Precision bass, '60 Jazz bass and a '61 Strat. Both the US factory at Fullerton and Fender Japan set about producing vintage reissues- in fact the Japanese were the first to succeed and the superb quality of their instruments resulted in the famous quote by Dan Smith, Director of Marketing, Electric Guitars at the time :"Everybody came up to inspect them and the guys almost cried, because the Japanese product was so good - it was what we had been having a hell of a time trying to do."

MII Ibanez. I have one and aside from the shitty pickups and gloss neck, I would say it isn't too far from my MIJ Ibanez.

Yeah the pickups are crap, electronics are shit, neck is sticky on the back, but you can fix that with some sanding.

I just wish all guitar companies would go satin on their neck. Is it expensive to do so? I mean satin is so much more smooth for playing.

There are two trim levels to Gibson now, HP and T.
T is short for Traditional, with ordinary tuners, bridge and regular nut.
HP stands for High Performance, with the infamous 2015 features-robo tuners, headstock-mounted tuner, titanium saddles in the bridge and the "zero fret" nut.
Also of note is that the T models are about $350 cheaper than the same HP model.

for metal? 6505 without a doubt, and it's the most versatile with the 20w push pull/5w class A/1w class A switch. micro dark is fun but kind of a toy/back up type thing compared to the other two. the HT-5 isnt bad, but tonewise the gain channel gets kind of mushy for metal(thats just single ended amps in general). great hard rock tone though.

its the eeriest shit youve ever heard

room, hall, cathedral, gated, plate, and a delay setting

eeriest shit ive ever heard. you can get this awesome "strings" sort of thing when pretty wet. the damp pot is indispensable. and it self oscillates like crazy.

i spent a long time looking for the right reverb and i am super glad i found this. compared it to my friends blue sky when we swapped for a weekend and imo the context dominates. it's also less than half the price.

they make what is objectively the best hall reverb, the ring thing is a ring mod, a sideband mod, and a pitch shifter. great for chorus. can do tremolo, but it sounds like its modulation, not whatever the volume thing is that tremolo does. and the fuzz is goat

the EHXtortion has got me covered on that, I can push a signal with my other (not pictured) Sludgemaker pedal to get a really chunky lead tone.

>ditch the multi
You know you're right. I basically only use it for octaving effects anyways, so I guess next on my list is a Pitchfork or a Whammy.

I play Sludge and stoner a LOT as well as plenty of alternative rock and stuff like that. In other words, I play primarily stoner/sludge but like to play anything that is fun.

>>61851370
>The organizer is supposed to have a weird warbly sorta pipe-ish sound, not like a hammond or like a big octaver.
So basically just like a POG or Micro POG with a chorus. Which also sounds better than the Organizer, and cleaner.

i dunno brhu i dont really into sludge or stoner or alt. i think delay is essential. so many things you can do with it. you should get a clean boost. especuialy if youre using t00bs. dont spend a lot of money. the zvex one consists or like $10 of materials. Zachary can blow himself.

This is true, but I also really liked it. I do know buying the parts individually is better and so is building it yourself but...

...Man I don't have an excuse rip, but I'm not dissatisfied with it, so I'm not too angry.

I'll grab a clean boost at some point, but I'm not using a tube amp. The EHXtrotion act's like one though, so it'll be a bit further down on my list after a whammy and maybe an Orange Micro/Tiny terror

Left is a Carvin Bolt kit. Special options are a mahogany body, ebony fretboard, and twin blade rail pickups.
Right is my prized 2007 Charvel San Dimas. Made in 'Merica. Best neck of any guitar ever made. Perfect in almost every way. Just wish it had a hardtail bridge.

I also have an SX fretless bass that I fucked up with a bad epoxy job. I don't have the patience to fix it atm, but it can be salvaged.

after an initial investment of like a couple hundred dollars you can definitely produce your own efx for like no money. "boutique" prices are out of control. especually the fucking $200

I'd really like to start making my own to be honest, like some different types of fuzzes and basically being able to make the ideal fuzz for me. I already have a soldering iron, what else would you recommend? I'm pretty decent at soldering.
>>
>>61851863
The Carvin kit was $530 shipped. I love it. It sounds like a really nice strat with hot, noiseless pickups and it played like a dream right out of the box. Cheaper than some Mexican fenders

The tape was to protect my pickups from metal dust when I was polishing the frets. I kept it on because it keeps the high E from snagging under the neck pickup. It doesn't affect the tone at all.

narrower tips make this shit so much easier. higher wattage too. i use a 40 W iron. i use a dremel to do everything with the stripboard i use. you can get a variable speed dremel for like $50 max when there's a sale. etching tips are great for cleaning flux off your circuit board. i use a uni-bit for all the drilling into the enclosures. smaller bits for pilot holes. cordless drill for this stuff. the more control over the tortque you have the better. you can get like a 20 V max drill/driver for like $150 max i wanna say. 12 V for like a hundred on sale, if not less.

other stuff i can think of off the top of my head incluides an exacto knife, brass wire brush (the toothbrush looking kind), several different pauirs of pliers, wire stripper(s), multimeter, helping hands, magnifying g lass, 6 '' steel ruler for measuring enclosures, sharpies, pencils, needle files, electrical tape, solder braid, scouring pad for buffing stripboard before soldering, uhhhhh

I've decided to get my first bass, after playing around with a few I've decided on the jazz bass style.
I'm torn between a Squier one, new, or a used Fender one I found. Both are $250. I know this is a good bargain for a Fender instrument, but is there any real difference between the quality of what must be a lower-tier Fender and a high-tier Squier? I definitely prefer the look of the Squier one, and don't know exactly how well the Fender is set up (plus it has tape on the neck that can't be removed, looks terrible).
How much of Fender's price is just payment for the brand name?

while good buffers are nice if you have a big pedalboard true bypass still has its place. 7 string string guitars work well for solo arraignments of pieces provided the player is good.

Anything where you use a 5 string bass

The 7th string is mostly for different chord positions up the neck. Sure I can still do a Bsus2 at the 7th fret E string but the Low B can come in handy so I don't have to slide all the way down the fucking guitar neck each time, along with adding in an extra 5 notes to use in the lower register that isn't always for CHUG CHUG shit.

I have a feeling I'm being trolled/baited.

you just described why its good for solo and not needed in a band situation. good job

I'm confused, did you forget that the lower string has a completely different sound to it than another string because of the gauge, not to mention different chord voicings available, as well as being able to play in some keys at a lower register? I assume you did because you know a whole lot about this right?

exactly. which is what the bass player is for in a band. if you need the lower register you can always tune lower or get a baritone

You sound like you need a 27 fret, 10 string guitar.
