Is there such a thing as twelve-tone pop music? Is it even possible?
I don't think they use chromatic in pop
Probably. Look at Syzygys.

That's not twelve-tone though, it's chromatic, at times microtonal, but definitely tonal. I think the entire concept of atonality might be so at odds with the end goal of pop music that it's actually impossible.

Maybe. Harmony-wise it would probably be impossible, but if you used the same structure (verse/chorus/verse) with poppy lyrics and instrumentation and it might resemble pop. The result would certainly be interesting.

twelve tone != atonality btw

Okay, you know what I meant. I was going to ask if there was "atonal" pop music, but that's a question that would have been easily misunderstood.

>Okay, you know what I meant.
The Western musical tradition is based on 12 tones. All conventional western music uses these 12 tones. How the fuck am I supposed to know what you meant

bumping for clarity

People usually don't called normal pop music "12 tone music" although I see your point. And to answer OP's question, Frank Zappa most likely used a 12 tone matrix to come up with some of his passages but I can't think of any examples. I wouldn't be surprised if other pop artists used it at one point in time, but it does seem very counterintuitive to the method of creating pop music.
