Why isn't this album considered /mu/core yet American Wankball is?
Also, general "Why isn't [X] /mu/core" thread

ive been on /mu/ for 4 months and i've never seen this album before, pretty sure it's not mucore

At The Drive In is on the /mu/core chart though

Part of it is that ATDI fans disagree over which of their albums/EPs was the best. Some seem to think that RoC was a "sellout" attempt, and that Vaya or I/C/O was better.

It's sort of the same thing with Dismemberment Plan fans who split between Change and Emergency & I.
>>
>>61801565
post it pls
>>
>>61801583
Does anyone besides contrarians actually disagree that RoC and E&I are the magnum opi of their respective artists?

Under "p4k-core"
>>
>>61801679
>p4k core
>half the albums on it got panned by p4k

wew
>>

still makes it pitchfork core
>>
>>61801583
>>61801633
Except Vaya is their best, RoC had some good songs but a lot of subpar tracks as well, if it was half as long it would've been better. There are no bad songs on Vaya, the album is consistent, creative, and doesn't wear out its welcome. Alongside that The production does well to not compromise the integrity of what hardcore/post-hardcore music should sound like, even Omar admits he doesn't like how RoC turned out. Tl;dr, RoC is the pleb's choice whereas Vaya is the real magnum opus.

I could never really get into ATDI. I hate the vocalist. I just think this style of post-hardcore will never click with me. Same with metalcore. I can't stand even the most highly acclaimed artists, like Converge.
>>
>>61801530
>been here for 4 months and haven't heard of a popular album

>>61801730
p4k core doesn't mean p4k likes it, it means that people that follow p4k will know most of the albums under it

A can't really see a post-hardcore album becoming top tier /mu/core, unless you wanna call one of Big Black's albums /mu/core. >>61801583 raises a good point. I think that Relationship of Command has their best songwriting but I prefer the production on Vaya and In/Casino/Out.
>>
>>61801782
Post-hardcore is one of my favorite genres and i don't really care for RoC.

>I can't really see a post-hardcore album becoming top tier /mu/core
I'd think the opposite. Before the mid 200s and the onset of poppy and hated post-hardcore bands like Chiodos and Hawthorne Heights, post-hardcore was treated like the pinnacle of how smart and sophisticated punk-influenced stuff could be. Seems elitist and smug enough to be right up /mu/'s alley

What do my fellow ATDI fans think of this:

https://youtu.be/8S_dUTqbGH8

I was into them in high school
>>
>>61801763
what songs on roc do you think are subpar?
>>
>>61802370
Mannequin Republic, Quarantined, and Non-Zero Possibility definitely
Arcarsenal, Sleepwalk Capsules, Pattern Against User, and Rolodex Propoganda fell more into meh-tier
Cosmonaut, Invalid Litter Dept, One Armed Scissor, and Enfilade are all great however.
>>
>>61802523

Holy shit, Pattern Against User is the best song on the album. So good that the producer didn't rape as much as the other tracks.
>>
>>61802523
>Arcarsenal
>meh tier
I can't believe my eyes
>>
>>61802558
It's my favorite out of all the meh-tier songs, however Arcarsenal would be in great-tier if it didn't have that awkward thirty second segment near the end, it ruined what should've been an aggressive song.
>>
>>61802523
This is the actual breakdown of RoC.

Great to God Tier
>Arcarsenal, Pattern Against User, Rolodex Propaganda, Cosmonaut, Invalid Litter Dept, One Armed Scissor, and Enfilade

Good to OK Tier
Mannequin Republic, Quarantined, Non-Zero, and Sleepwalk Capsules
>>

>>61802601
If anything >>61802677 taste is extremely close to mine regarding the album. All the songs in great to god tier are songs I like from the album whereas everything in great to Ok tier are songs I dislike minus maybe some parts of it. I used meh-tier to describe everything in-between subpar and great which was a bad choice of words in retrospect. To breakmit down further here's how it'd be.
Invalid Litter Dept, Enfilade, and Cosmonaut are my favorite songs off the album. My favorite tack always rotates between those three. One Armed Scissor always is fourth however. I placed those tracks into great-tier because I find them to be consistent and amazing with no weak parts whatsoever. Ranked fifth would be Pattern Against User, I find it to be consistent like all the great-tier songs but in general I find the strong parts of it to not be as strong as the songs in great-tier. Arcarsenal is sixth, would be great-tier, even in favorite-tier if not for that awkward "Have you ever tasted skin" part of it, I find it breaks my immersion in the song so this lack of consistency places it sixth. Rolodex Propaganda is seventh, I find it to be as consistently good throughout but lacking the punch all the aforementioned songs have. Sleepwalk Capsules is more of the same minus not being as thoroughly good throughout, Mannequin Republic has an okay riff throughout it and that's about it, leaving Quarantined and Non-Zero Possibility to be consistently dull.

>>61803037
its a shame that catacombs wasnt on the album, thats one of their best songs
>>
>>61801679
never really got everyones obsession with nevermind in utero and bleach were better albums
>>
WOOORRMED OUURR WAAYYY THROUGH
>>
>>61801583
I have never seen anyone on here debate the statement that E&I is better than Change
>>
>>61802558
i want to second this, Pattern Against User is a legitimate 5/5 song, especially that part in the middle where everything quiets and only the melody is played
>>
>>61804264
hello mother leopard
>>
>>61801515
It's a Pokeman.
>>
>>61805781
Arcarsenal, Patten Against User, One Armed Scissor is a fantastic way to start an album.
>>
>>61802344
Zen Arcade was really good, and I'd think it to be more influential than Relationship of Command, therefore being a better candidate to become /mu/core. But, of course that's not how things become /mu/core.
