How is he not "real" country?

You can say he's country and be 100% correct but in this instance I want to hear modern country artist who fit into the modern criteria of country

You don't know many people who listen to country then. Hell, quite a few folks I know who are actually from country areas don't consider modern country to be country music.

If you want modern country, say you want modern country. Louis Armstrong sounds almost nothing like most jazz of the past 50 years, he's still a Jazz artist.
