I don't try to impress my friends with my superior patrician taste. When I'm around them, I attempt to play something accessible yet enjoyable for their little brains to process. When I am alone, I unveil my intellectual prowess by listening to favorites such as Deathspell Omega, Abigor, Gorguts, Demilich, Lykathea Aflame, the list could go on...), but when I am with lower scum, I might put on some Amon Amarth or Arch Enemy. They look so cute when they tell me that kind of music is truly revolutionary! I guess we can't all be geniouses.

Arcturus-The Sham Mirrors, needs no real explaining and that should be your pick for Arcturus
Contrastic's self titled and TOOH-Pod vládou biče are really well known pieces of avant-deathgrind that were extremely influential in their home land, which is the homeland of wacky deathgrind, so their effect can't be denied
Diapsiquir (pick any album) is the most well known avant-garde industrial black metal band, with their album A.N.T.I. being oftenly called the black metal aswer to Mr Bungle
Mr Bungle's self titled of course which was one of the first (and the first truly notable) avant-garde metal albums
there are many other great avant garde metal bands but these are some of the most impactful

A lot of the reviews on MA are just bashing them for being a Christian band.
The first three or so albums are death metal classics.
The next couple are okay.
The next couple are shit.
They made a big splash in 2006 and released Erasing the Goblin which was kind of a "back to our roots" type thing and it was actually really good.
The albums since then have just been awful, like the worst stuff they've ever done.
I'm not sure why, but their production was actually great in the 90s when they were three guys playing out of Steve Rowe's garage and now that they own their own studio and have their own record label they sound awful.
Their singer was diagnosed with terminal cancer in the mid 2000s which really fucked up his voice. He's recovered from the cancer but the damage was done.
