memes baka desu senpai
>>
They're mucore because they're controversial

Also
>Loveless
>Hated
>>
>>61767427
because /mu/ used to love it and that's how 4chan works
>>
Is this a serious topic? Most people actually still love all of these. In fact most of the board still actually likes all of these; people most of the time only pretend to shit on these to troll.
>>
>>61767443

>STGSTV is pretty good if your ears can stand it

Jesus fucking Christ. Are you 14? STGSTV is NOT that abrasive.
>>
If you look at chart threads you'll see /mu/core on virtually every one. It's a vocal minority that actually hates /mu/core.
>>
>>61767486
this
hating on /mu/core is a meme
all of /mu/core are good albums
>>
>hurrrrr reddit circlejerks over the same albums daily
>hey why don't you like these same albums posted every day
>>
PROTIP: If you listen to these albums all the time and place them in your top 20 lists, you're a dumb, clueless drone

Well, the more expansive chart has several bad album
>The Beatles
>Metallica
>BTBAM
>Megadeth
>Opeth

All shit.
>>
>>61767427
Loveless is the only worthwhile album on there desu
>>
>>61767597
Or, you know, you just enjoy the album.

If you base your opinion on the popularity of an album then you don't enjoy the music. You're just a poser.
>>
>>61767633
If just one, sure, if more than 3, you obviously have only just got into music and not started to develop yet.
>>
>>61767672
Or, you've listen to a lot of albums and a lot of /mu/-core stuff just so happens to be your favorite.

They're all good albums anon.
>>
>>61767672

Wrong. Contrarianism is not better than conformity.
>>
>>61767689
lol
>>
>>61767633
See >>61767548

A large amount of /mu/core is generally quality stuff. The classics section on the expanded version is actually top notch and I couldn't agree more on the choices.
However, I think the chart should be updated in a few areas.
>>
>>61767701
>if you don't like what /mu/ likes you're contrarian

pathetic
>>
>>61767720
Half of the albums in the metal section are absolute shit imo.

I can't believe there are people on /mu/ that actually think BTBAM and Opeth are good
>>
>>61767617
>Metallica
>Opeth
I agree. BTBAM shouldn't be on there either but they aren't necessarily shit at least they don't make it boring like Opeth. The rest definitely deserve to be there. Megadeth has a better mix of riffs that are both intense and technical/varied than your favorite band especially KIMB and RIP.
>>
>>61767520
Post a pic of yourself!
>>
>>61767767
Colors should be on there imo, /mu/ used to circle jerk the fuck outa it.
>>
>>61767427
all of those albums are exceptionally good but not kanye
>>
>>61767736

If you'd deny enjoying, or refuse to enjoy something based entirely on it's popularity, you are the precise definition of a contrarian.
>>
>>61767672
Just because you like the album - or any amount of /mu/core albums - doesn't mean you're a drone. You're only a drone if you like the album BECAUSE /mu/ likes it. But if you evaluate it using your OWN brain, and come to your OWN conclusion that you enjoy it, then what's the problem?

However, if you DISLIKE the album because it's discussed on /mu/, that makes you a drone. If you dislike the album because that's your OWN opinion that's fine, but don't call people drones just because they like /mu/core. That's stupid.
>>
>>61767754
100% agree, the metal & hip-hop in a few areas needs defo updating.
Of all the Opeth albums why is Blackwater Park the one chosen? I would've though /mu/ would go more towards Watershed or Orchid.

I hate the stupid fucking 19 year olds on this board

most of the /mu/core albums are great
>>
>>61767850
The majority of people on the popular 4chan boards are 19 and younger. That's just how it is now.

>>
Seeing this chart always makes me FeelGoodMan, even though I don't browse /mu/ anymore. I was 16 when I made that /mu/core chart and it just stuck, and is now widely accepted 2 years later. I made the somewhat controversial decisions of removing MPP, TMS, OKC, and Hospice and replaced them with SGTSTV, ExMil, RIL, and Spiderland. And adding Untrue and American Football. And now it's one of the most recognized pictures on 4chan. nigga i'm a fucking loser this is like the most important thing i've done in my life so far
>>
>>61767520
I think what he’s trying to say is that animal collective sucks. he’s not wrong tbqh
>>
>>61769780

it's all a meme and it has always been
>>

>>
>>61772688
This
/mu/core has always been about the memes even years ago before memes became all we talk about.
>>
>>61772688
>>61772799
/mu/core was started as a joke chart to see how many would drone it

it worked brilliantly
>>
>>61769780
>I was 16 when I made that /mu/core chart

what was your tripname
>>
>>61767427
Well there's not a good album there so I'd say it's pretty much warranted.
>>
>>61769780
The original /mu/core char was made in 2009 though
>>
It's not that they're bad albums, it's just that after years of being common topics, discussion about them has become a meme. Like, if you went to /lit/ and started a thread about Mark Twain you probably couldn't expect everyone to take it seriously.
>>
>>61772799
>>61772822
That's wrong though. /mu/core is actually just the highest rated albums on rym, people got their taste there and brought it to /mu/.
>>
>>61772996
No it isn't.

The original chart was made by /mu/-tang!clan back in 2009 and it was made up of the most spammed albums, then the p4k highest rated, a section for those classics and then a meal section.
>>
>>61767520
Are you joking? The first track makes my ears bleed unless I use an EQ meter to turn the treble down.

This is the original AFAIK and that top row was no way exclusive to RYM
>>
>>61773147
They're not exclusive to anything, those albums are available to the public. There are loads of people that like those albums and have never even heard of this place.
>>
>>61773189
Exactly.
>>
>>61773221
Sort of invalidates the concept of "/mu/core" doesn't it?
>>
>>61773284
sure, I hold no stock or care about the label or the music in it, never quite understood the point and why /mu/ latched on to it in the first place since it was a joke chart
>>
>there are people that actively hate albums not because of their critical opinions on them but because they were highly regarded on the music section of an anime imageboard between the years 2009-2011
>>
>>61767617
hello reddit
>>
>>61773338
it wasn't really a joke though, it was an accurate list of the most commonly discussed albums of the time, calling it /mu/core was certainly tongue-in-cheek however
>>
>>61767427

We don't have to follow to the beat of your fucking drum, we'll listen to what we damn well please. An attempt to make any kind of chart depicting "/mu/-core" goes against what this board was about in the first place - the discovery and discussion of music, not a checklist for someone to be patrician or informed.
>>
>>61767427
It's a love hate relationship.
>>
>>61767754

Out of all of these albums, after a few years of browsing, the only ones I still like (and listen to with any frequency) are In the Aeroplane, Kid A, Spiderland, Loveless, and In The Court of the Crimson King. It's not that I dislike the other /mu/core, but rather I realized there were a lot more things I didn't like than on the albums that stuck with me. Some examples: Godspeed is insanely long-winded and fairly gimmicky with the prevalence of building crescendos then ambient sections. Skinny Fists was probably my favorite of the albums at a time as well, but once I got into bands like Tortoise, Godspeed felt pretty weak. Kanye West is a solid producer, but his rapping is pretty mediocre. Death Grips pose an interesting idea but execute on it somewhat obnoxiously.
